A MOTHERS WORDS BY FIONA CUMMINGS
Oh my Mother tells me
I was a lucky baby
I had everything you see
The best clothes money could buy
Delicious food I did try
I had the latest toys
Got them before the
other girls and boys
I went places in the
car
Some days to the beach from here, too far
My Mother took me to the zoo you know
I had the best man made from snow
At Christmas I spoke to Santa
Mother said I could really chatter
Oh and my room
I had wallpaper with clowns on
My light was an air balloon
On my chair was a cushion
And a teddy bear with the biggest bow
My bedding had on it pictures of a circus show
In the corner was a tall standing horse called Joe
On my shelf was a clock which played music
On my windowsill was a snow globe
That she said was magic
She would say, how does it snow
I never knew
Are these words true
I am sure they are
Why would she lie about
time gone by
How she did try
To do her best
To make my life better than all the rest
But all the detail in my bedroom
Was it necessary to spend a fortune
As for me I don’t remember
before my years of four
That was another life, beyond a closed door
Now I am with child
Shall I go the same way
Spoiling my baby from its first day
Who do we do this for
Just a thought I wanted to explore
