HEAVEN OR HELL
BY FIONA CUMMINGS
There is a life out there
That we don’t know about
Will they ever share
This I doubt
A peaceful place perhaps
Where there are whispers
And they don’t shout
There are worshipers
Who praise the land
Will we ever understand
Who lives in that place
What do they look like
Do they have a face
Do they have eyes
Do they show emotions
Like act as though surprised
Do they have traditions
What is their history
Why have they been a mystery
Do they need water
Are they so evil as to slaughter
Do they breathe air as we do
When they eat do they chew
Or perhaps put their lips to a switch
Do they use money
Are they rich
Possibly poor
Have they lived on our earth before
Walked through that infamous door
Leaving behind people who grieve
Into a land which is hard to believe
Why don’t they come back and tell us
What is all the fuss
If we knew we were to meet with loved ones
Our sad tunes
Would turn to happy songs
Our lonely rooms
Would be full of hope
No more ghosts
But waiting for us hosts
A new life for you and me
Once again reunited with our family
But what would we wear
Would people stare
We would surely look so different
Would we have the same scent
What language would we speak
To communicate in what way
Would the sun shine
night and day
Would we sit upon a star
With wings would we fly
If so how far
Would flowers be in bloom forever
Would there be valleys of purple heather
Tropical streams full of colourful fish
Fountains flow where we make a wish
We would smile a cherry kiss
Sit next to a stream
Hold onto our dream
Echoes of laughter would be heard
We would be free just like a bird
Would we all hear, see and walk well
As this would be heaven
For now we live in hell
