DEPRESSED? BY FIONA CUMMINGS

Depressed?

By Fiona Cummings

Why does life not make sense

Leaves us sitting on the fence

So dark our world can be

Is it hard to ask to be happy

What tastes good makes us ill

Like candy

So we reach for the curable pill

It’s handy

We need a quick thrill

Pick up the bottle

Puts us in a better fettle

But for how long

That can’t go on

Take some drugs or cigarettes

So employing thugs

We will have big regrets

And what for

Some unwelcomed person at our door

How can we fix what is broken

Not by substance liquid or smoking

How can we feel better

Our lives we are choking

The air we are killing

If only there was a button to press

To stop us from feeling depressed

How beautiful life would be

For people like you and me

Rainy days could be history

Sunshine in our hearts always

Sadness can be a haze

Stuck in the middle of a maize

Let’s all try to be brave

Stop digging our grave

Look up and feel proud

You are one of a crowd

A group of us

Who hate fuss

And all want to jump on that big red bus

A drive to happiness

The only tears will be of gladness

As we are all the same

Yes we can blame

Our past

But that can’t  last

The future goes on

Make this moment a promise

That I will survive will be our song

Life is a bonus

And we need to learn this

Being depressed is not a weakness

Or a sign of madness

But a state of mind

For all man kind

Only we can change this

Come with me out of the darkness

Into the light

Hold onto my hand

Ever so tight

Times will be tough

Some hours may be rough

But make the days into hours

 Into minutes

Into seconds

And make way for the sunshine

That before was seconds

Into minutes

Into hours

Into days

Let the darkness  go away

For you and I will have a bright new day

Step up with me

Wash away your troubles

Throw it in the rubble

What has it ever done for you

Why feed it with pain

For it to bite you again

When you start to feel sad

Fight those thoughts which are bad

Turn away

You are better than that

No  one can chase you anymore

For you are up off that dirty floor

You are the blossom on the tree

The beauty what is in you and me

I want to help you

And you can help me

To fight depression

Stamp out aggression

Welcome freedom

To walk

To talk

To feel relaxed

No more tension

What hurts we won’t mention

What loves we’ll show affection

So come on face the right direction

Let’s all stand together

And feel better forever
