AS TIME GOES BY
BY FIONA CUMMINGS
We have been frozen for a year now
Why this happened I don’t know how
Our legs have stood still
Through spring, summer autumn and winters chill
A door slammed against our face
Stuck in the same place
Without our helping hands
No music from our delightful band
Looking at the person looking back at us
Screaming out for help
An yet she doesn’t make a fuss
We look like we are waiting for a buss
We were told it was traditional
We were special
Important I presume
We had to wear a
costume
We represented our country
Stand proud
But with no sound
We are dancers
Chancers in time
Moving to the rhythm
On a balcony made from pine
Then a wonderful thing happened
A man came with some tools
He removed our little door, breaking all the rules
He poked and bent our wires
Then took some sharp pliers
Now we are fixed
He did a magic trick
Oh that sound of the tick
The bells and the music
Truly it’s magic
Again we can do what our forest makers intended
We are what you call mended
Yes, our cuckoo clock is fixed and the German dancers can
dance again.
