Laughter’s for miles

Palms full of tears
Living a lie
Asking yourself why
Putting yourself through pain
Playing the game
Outside you are fine
Indoors you may pine
A half glass of wine
Looks mighty fine
Then a bottle
Needles like a nettle
Bleeding on sharp metal
Hiding the cuts
Ignoring the tuts
Keeping your curtains shut
Sitting on your own
Not answering the phone
Drowning in fear
No one is near
Sleeping rough
In silence
Life is tough
Such violence
Bruises hidden by cuffs
Daily challenge
A broken marriage
Don’t tell a soul
Feeling the cold
Last bit of coal
No matches left
No time to regret
Burns from the cigarette
Make a run for it?
Go far
Follow the shining star
Where you can’t be found
Get off the ground
Look back and be proud
You will be one of the crowd
