WHY I DO NOT EAT ANIMALS

I love animals, this is why I am a vegetarian. It is in my opinion, human avarice and absolute selfish attitude, which makes us eat meat! I know that is a controversial subject and will get people  quite hot under the collar, it is my opinion that if only we knew what happened to poor defenseless animals, a lot  more of us would not eat meat. If we look into a baby calf’s eyes or held a newborn lamb, understood the trust that animals hold in us, we would not eat meat so free fully without guilt.

Believe me, I loved meat, I bet I enjoyed it as much  or more than you. In general, I do not like vegetarian food. Though I never want to eat meat again. To feel the poor sacrificed flesh in my mouth. To have the knowledge that an innocent animal,  has been slaughtered for my taste buds. If I have to eat food  that  is not so tasty, that is absolutely fine by me, I would rather live with that than know a cow has cried, a pig has screamed or a lamb has suffered in any way.

Some people say that there would be no animals if not for us eating them? Well why not? We have lions in our zoo’s, do we eat them? We have penguins do we eat them? Monkeys? Some countries do, why don’t we? Come on, ask yourself, do you not fancy a nice succulent slice of slithering snake? A mouthful of monkey’s brains? “Yum!” Why is that not tempting you when in some parts of the world, it is considered to be a delicacy? How we could fill our freezer with a lion? The anus of a Barbecued raccoon, I am sure that bacon sounds as tantalising in other parts of the world, as squirrel squares sound to us? How is our animals more tasty than theirs?

It is a fact, that cows release methane and the gas I am sure is their way of trying to fight back have their last word before they get bled and slaughtered.

A  disturbing picture of the reality of Britain's killing factories, is as follows.
The rough number of animals killed per year in British slaughterhouses, is approximately 900 million.

This included 9.35 million pigs, nearly 15 million sheep, 28 million turkeys, 20 million ducks, over 850 million chickens and 2.25 million cattle.
This equates to 2.4 million animals slaughtered every day; 100,000 an hour; 1600 per minute and 26 every second.

Stun to kill techniques

Slaughter in the UK is still predominantly based around the notion that the heart must continue beating after an animal's throat has been cut in order to pump out the blood. Studies have shown that in fact, it makes no difference whether an animal's heart is still beating - the amount of blood lost will be the same. As a result, new techniques have been developed which stun and kill animals at the same time - either by using gas (used for birds and pigs) or by using electricity to cause unconsciousness and simultaneously give the animal a cardiac arrest (used for sheep, pigs and cattle. See also Chickens, Turkeys, Ducks and Geese). Only a small percentage of abattoirs currently use these techniques.

These methods do at least remove the risk of animals regaining consciousness while they are bleeding to death. However, gas mixtures do not kill instantly and can cause great distress if they contain carbon dioxide. The Scientific Veterinary Committee of the EU say that when electricity is used , animals do not always lose consciousness and can therefore suffer a 'potentially painful' cardiac arrest.

Cattle slaughter

The majority of cattle are stunned with the captive bolt pistol. Penetrative captive bolt stunners drive a bolt into the skull and cause unconsciousness both through physical brain damage and the concussive blow to the skull. The bolt on a non-penetrative stunner is 'mushroom-headed' and impacts on the brain without entering the skull. Unconsciousness is caused by the concussive blow.

If an animal is not accurately stunned or the correct cartridge strength is not used, the stun will not be effective. The EU Scientific Veterinary Committee estimate that around 5 to 10% of cattle are not stunned effectively with the captive bolt - or up to 230,000 animals a year. These animals experience the pain of being shot in the head and will either be stunned again (a difficult procedure) or continue on for knifing whilst conscious.

Do you enjoy eating veal? What do you really know about it? I’ve seen first hand how these calves are treated. It’s a deplorable practice, and when you see it in person, it has a much more powerful impact than seeing it on the television for example. ...

So if you have read this, how do you now feel, I really would be interested to know?

My Husband travelled to Korea and in the shopping Centre, there were windows of dogs. My Husband and the person he was travelling with innocently thought it was a pet shop. They went in  and  to their horror, the man in the shop, removed a dog and brought it back, still alive, but shaved. Just ready for the oven!
