Ribbons of life
By Fiona Cummings
What is lifeHow did
it start
What makes the blood pump around the heart
How did it all begin
Who told the birds they could all sing
That they should fly in the sky
The cows should graze in the fields
Transport should move on wheels
Flowers should make us feel good
Fire should hunger
for wood
Our bodies need water, why
And why is there ground to walk on and above us a sky
Who decided we needed air
What makes us feel better knowing that there is always
someone there
To love us, to care
Life’s troubles and plesures to share
What are the stars there for
Were they there before
What is our true past
Will life now as we know it last
We are not just science which has evolved
Our life is mapped out
But wars will still carry
on till the answer is solved
Living is like ribbons, blowing in the wind
Curling in all directions
Shadows of dull reflections
They shred when life gets tough
Harsh storms make our times rough
So why do we feel a
thing called emotion
What reason do we express devotion
Why do we laugh
What makes us cry
Why say hello
And then goodbye
Why do we not live forever
Then all our loved
ones could stay together
Do we move on to another place
Will we recognise that once familiar face
I wished we knew
But there is a reason we don’t we are not so wise
Who knows what is really true
We are mere ribbons in life floating in the skies
