CHRISTMAS COLOURS BY FIONA CUMMINGS
Oh the colours of Christmas
So rich and grand
They never change from the past
The same throughout the land
Clarets, emeralds and gold
Listening to stories being told
Parcels with their satin bows
Rudolf with his red nose
Children with gleeful expressions
Wanting to show off all their possessions
Visitors come and go
Friends and relations
Footprints are made in the virgin snow
Snowflakes fall from the full December sky
We look for the turtledoves as they fly
In the distance the choirs sing
A man kneels on one knee and offers a ring
A Christmas wish
A lovers kiss
Unknown soldiers we miss
A candle we light and place in our window
And say a prayer over the amber glow
The tree looks so
pretty
All decorated with toys
The shop windows are inviting in the city
For the little girls and boys
Old men hold each other up in the street
Laughing at not been able to stand on their feet
Young girls run to their parties in sparkles
Carrying well wrapped parcels
Bright lights shine to advertise the latest shows
Silver bells and A Christmas Carol
Commuters hurry by with bags of new clothes
Icicles bow down to frozen rivers, which in summer flows
Barron, soil with a
winter rose
Holly berries hang from doors framed with mistletoe
A peck on the cheek
as your guests come in
A glass of sherry to warm deep within
A hot sweet mince pie
And a bowl of punch
Lots of turkey left overs for a seasonal lunch
Cinnamon sticks and orange slices
All the smells of Christmas spices
Fairy lights flashing
away
Ready to welcome the special day
