DAYLIGHT FOR HOURS
BY FIONA CUMMINGS
As the navy nights turn to cobalt
The icy flakes become silver rain
Winter comes to a halt
And spring is here again
For the crocuses wave goodbye until next year
And the yellow daffodils start to cheer
The robins seam to go into hiding
And the blackbirds begin their fighting
New born songs on the horizon
Amazing how they concord
surviving
Nipping blizzards
We forget all hazards
As the days get longer
And the nights shorter
Log fires flicker their ambers for the last time for a while
People pass and frozen faces give a smile
Stepping out isn’t such a trial
A new start
As the winter begins to depart
For another season will show new colours
Beautiful flowers
Sunny showers
Promissing skies
Winter blues hopeful for summer highs
As seasons change, I do wonder
What is for us in life’s valleys and yonder
Sunshine so splendour
One can only hope for
As pain ends, open another door
We say spring cleaning
What does this mean?
Out with the dirt and make all sheen?
As snow turns to rain
And rain turns to sun
Start all again
And be free to run
Feel the breze through your hair
Life with little care
But remember those who you love
And share
Turn your winter teardrop
Into a tall proud
tulip
Spring is near
To me it’s so dear
I love cosy winters next to the fireplace
But for me it has a time and place
My rosey cheeks
Are needing golden sun
Snowy peaks
See waterfalls run
Welcome the spring
The birds hear them
sing
Carpets of flowers
And daylight for hours
