FREE ONE DAY BY FIONA CUMMINGS

FREE ONE DAY

BY FIONA CUMMINGS

Tear stains cover her ashen face

Tares now in what was once pretty lace

Trembling bony fingers

What were before young hands

The smell of blood lingers

No one understands

Bruises cover her now lined face

Troubled now her beauty replaced

By weapons of life

She is someone’s wife

Locked away

Never sees the light of day

No one to phone

She’s really alone

Working keeping a home

Goodness help her if there is one thing out of place

Trapped like a prisoner she has her space

Hands and knees

From dust till dawn

A cut bleeds

As if on a rose thorn

Trembling inside

She wishes she could hide

Why is she not missed?

No one comes looking

She never gets kissed

Just hit

That is her only contact

She used to try to react

Fight back

But it was a losing game

She has no name

No aim

Only to be there for when he needs her

His comments will be a slur

Fists will make her see a blur

How much more will she incur

From this what can we concur?

Her Husband goes to work people think he is wonderful

His manners are so beautiful

They believe, to his wife he is so dutiful

But they should ask where is his lady?

Never to see her is this not crazy?

Her neighbours never ask about her

Why does she not work?

They never see them together

Will she be left forever?

Or will she find the strength to escape

No longer he will hurt her

She won’t experience rape

She will run free

But where?

She has no one you see

No body to care

And what if he finds her

His anger he will share

But what if she finds her own way

And can wake each day

Open her eyes and see the light

Walk through the door and smile with delight

In bed at night

She sleeps in peace

Only her memory these days bleeds

Her nightmares occur

But she awakes

Big mistakes

No one is there

By her side with a fist

She puts her faith in God now

Her past is not missed

Lines are deep in her brow

But her skin will heal

Her heart will warm and love she will feel

Her future is a must

She has to learn how to trust

By doing that she helps others

Her sisters and brothers

Hands together each day

She will pray

For those who are in what was her situation

Absolute devastation

For them to find their own way

And be free themselves one day
