GOODBYE SUMMER BY FIONA CUMMINGS

GOODBYE SUMMER

BY FIONA CUMMINGS

The colours are fading all into one

The birds have stopped singing their summer song

The ochre sun has tears coming down

The people’s faces are mirroring a frown

The blossom on the branches have turned into sticks

Away for another year are the baskets which held picnics

Bear arms we now cover

Until next summer

So, now we face Autumn

Where our gardens suffer, from boredom

All the leaves have fallen

Grey skies meet with the earthy carpet

Through frosted windows

Signs of flames of scarlet

Flickering ambers keeping people warm

Tightly closed up houses

Secure from the storms

So, until next year

When our yolky friend will again appear

Keep warm

In evenings so, inky

And dawns

So, icy
