THE CHRISTMAS VISIT (THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY)

The Christmas visit  (The chocolate factory)

By Fiona Cummings

It’s Christmas time

And friends of mine

Asked me to pay a visit

So off to the chocolate factory

And what did I see

Decorations so exquisite

Though I have been here before

It’s still a mystery

When I walk through the magic door

I shrink so small

And from the tiny windows

Above the forever Cadburys rose

Everything is so tall

Snowflakes fall

The size of a football

And a sugared rainbow

Drops so low

One feels as though they can touch its colours

Reds and blues, yellows and greens

Made from tasty jellybeans

Inside so warm

With love from others

Candles glow upon the shelves

Gold coloured chocolate baubles

Hang from a Christmas tree

Jim the friendly elf

Gave one to me

And the star on the top was shining for all to see

You know Jim?

He has the cutest dimples and strawberry curls

His trousers are patents of spots and swirls

His shoes are pointy and heels so high

He wears a yellow dickey bow tie

On a table made from apple pie

Stands a marzipan Christmas cake

And on a stage

I see Jake

Playing his violin

Then there is Val turning the page

She tells stories of things she has baked

The factory children and sugar mice listen

As icicles outside Glisson

Val tells of the gingerbread man

Who runs away as fast as he can

Then there is the snowman

Made from fluffy marang

With liquorice hat

For a nose a carrot

Cherry lips

And eyes of coal

He wears a smile

Deep within his soul

A happy chap

With a red scarf

Next to the fireplace with its magical hearth

What makes it magic?

Well it’s a trick

Nothing melts

But we all keep warm

And toast marshmallows

And make popcorn

Parcels in bows

Lay under the ferns

The ambers burn

Children wait for their turn

To see the big man with the candy floss beard

And a velvet coat

He hands out a banana boat

That really does float

And a dolly

Some chocolate coins and a lickable lolly

A racing car

When wound up it goes so far

And an orange fragrant brolly

Cinnamon sticks hang from reefs

Grandpa laughs as he holds up  humungous briefs

Granny doesn’t look impressed

Looking good in her fancy dress

Caramel clowns

And Stirling crowns

Are placed around the room

 Tied to a helium balloon

Is Tixi, the tiny but strong pixie

In the candle glow

Under some mistletoe

Stands noddy and Nancy

It’s not chocolate they fancy

But a melting kiss

And magical wish

Off outside now

Passing the silver birch

Towards the chocolate church

Where we have a melody

From Melanie

The bells they ring

As we all start to sing

And wish for all

Small and tall

A very happy Christmas

And a perfect new year

As we clap hands and cheer

And feel good inside

As we all take a sleigh ride

Around the grounds of the factory

In a coach of gold

With rich purple seats

The white horses trot on

Through the frozen streets

With chimneys spouting frosty fog

Chasing our coach is our factory dog

Look at the robin

Sitting on the log

And the rag doll cats

In their bola hats

Don’t forget the leaf eating giraffe

He always makes me laugh

Once again a wonderful time

Sharing Christmas dreams

With good friends of mine
