CHRISTMAS NUMBER ONE
BY FIONA CUMMINGS
A huge Christmas tree stands so proud
Candles flicker
The air is bitter
Gathers a crowd
To listen to the brass bands
We all are wrapped up in scarves and mittens
Keeping warm winter hands
Lovers are smitten
Children excited for what is to come
This time of year is so much fun
Gold trombones Glisson
Big drums bang
We eat as much as we can
Choirs can be heard
A perfect Christmas card
With white snow and a red bird
Stalls selling jams jarred
And cheeses
Whatever pleases
Brandy soaked fruits
And silver flutes
Tambourines
And tangerines
Roasted chestnuts
From a wooden pot
Toasted marshmallows
We’ve got the lot
Puppets play
Night and day
Fairy lights glow
Lighting up the snow
Ferns wave
As we all give
Gifts of love
And a turtledove
Cinnamon lane
Has a track with a train
Which leads to Santa
Men joke as they have a bit banter
Children talk to the elves
At this time of year
No one should be by themselves
It’s time for cheer
And open our hearts to those who don’t have anyone
So let’s hear the music
And have a song
Watch some magic
All day long
Share the happiness
with those who aren’t so fortunate
Don’t let it slip away
As you will only regret
Your every day
It’s Christmas time
When we raise a glass of wine
To Auld Lang syne
For a gift this year give some time
To those who have been forgotten
Forget your busy lives for a moment
And unwind the stressful bobbin
Hear the angels from above
And show them you too can love
For Christmas is about humanity
Though some will plead insanity
Others will dread this time of year
And you can change it just to be near
To give a smile
Chat for a while
And gather in the logs
Light that flame
Life will never be the same
Better than a toy or a game
Look around you
See what you can see
There will be someone who needs you
Please believe me?
So next time you are around the tree
Think of these words please?
I belong to you and you belong to me
Singing songs
Where everyone feels as though they belong
Happy Christmas everyone
From me, you are all number one
