DIARY OF THE BIRDS BEE'S AND THE BUTTERFLIES BY FIONA CUMMINGS

Whilst it’s been a beautiful day here, storm Gloria is in Spain causing snow rain and winds and how life is full of different corners, as somewhere else in the world, scientists have managed to create the voice of a three thousand year old Egyptian mummy. Using artificial vocal cords. The thought of that makes me shiver. I listened to the recording of what the person who was a Priest would have sounded like, it’s amazing but creepy and you can find the link at the bottom of my blog.

I have had a bitter sweet day. I was picked up and went to lunch with friends and it was so lovely. But we left behind a friend who is grieving because she has had to get her dog put to sleep this week. Her other dog was put to sleep before Christmas. So, she was too upset to go out today. I asked her if she wanted me to stay with her rather than go out, but she said she was OK. Though it was a lovely day with some great people including my dear neighbour who we think the world of, remember she moved away and rented her house out? Well she is back for a while and I’m hopeful she will be back for good in the Spring, but it probably was the last time we would all be out together with our other friend as she has sold her house and is moving away. But we laughed and all got on so well as ever.

My darling Son told us about his house tonight. it’s looking like three weeks he will be moved in to his new place. Hub and I are going to take him shopping for things for his house. My baby really is growing up.

Something I was reading about today, food we, or you, may eat every day that is really bad for us and could promote cancer, and that is foods like, farmed fish. There are too many species of fish that are full of inhumane chemicals, pesticides and antibiotics. Farmed fish is given the wrong things to eat and it’s GMO to make the fish bigger.  All what the fish are fed is bad for our health.

Canned foods. There is a chemical called BPA that is in canned and bottled foods that is not good for us.

Microwave popcorn is not recommended again because of what is added to it. All process meats have a chemical that kills our body cells. Sugar and white flour. White bread is made with white flour which is bleached with chemicals.

We made a delicious soup made from potatoes, carrots, turnip, onions, lentils, beans and herbs and to make the soup thicker we made a kind of mixture of water with corn flour mixed in then added it to the soup when it was almost cooked. To make that and we got five large dishes of soup, cost about £2.50. and some people say they can’t afford to eat? Hub and I talk about such a subject and we are sure people who say that must mean they can’t afford to buy ready made meals, as if you cook your own food it costs so little.

Some tips to get bee’s, butterflies and birds into your garden, rather than cut your dead flowers, allow them to seed to make food for some birds. Hedgehogs? They need to get into your garden so check out your fences and try to create a gap small one and make sure there is space for them to get to whatever you have to offer. Hedgehogs numbers are declining and it’s so important for us to do our best to try to help nature to survive.

Hedgehogs love bugs slugs and worms and they love long grass to make their homes.

Take an old washing up dish fill the bottom with gravel and put some rocks at one side to help the creatures such as frogs get in and out. Fill the dish with water and it will promote visitors like newts, dragonflies and those frogs. Hmm I may pass on that one but I will make sure there is always fresh water for the birds as water is so important for the birds to clean their feathers so they can fly properly.

Ivy and honeysuckle are great   to provide shelter for birds and insects. Flowers to plant are snowdrops, crocuses, lupins, foxgloves and sunflowers.

If your birds are being bothered by the neighbours cats, apparently cats are really afraid  of, wait for it,,,,, em, not Lions  poop like I have heard about and something I used that worked, was a  few huge bottles half filled with water, as the cats  see their reflection through the glass and think it is a larger animal like a tiger? Well the latest thing I have read about what really scares them away is cucumbers. Apparently, they think they are snakes.

OK don’t forget to check out the link with that really spooky voice that has been created. I’m off to the blanket show as up bright and early tomorrow to see our friends for the day. I hope you have a lovely weekend and I hope someone makes you very happy over the next couple of days. xx
