DIARY OF IF ONLY BY FIONA CUMMINGS

It’s been a funny old day for weather. It rained so hard today, this morning, it was as if being at the beach on a stormy day, with the teal water lashing against the grey rocks! This afternoon, I have had to come in as it’s so hot I’m burning.

Our dogs have been for a free run and they loved it. My Son has been at work, sadly he was meant to go out with his friends tonight, but he has chosen once again to see his beloved Shamrock.

I have been in the garden cutting or is it called pruning, smile, God help our shrubs and roses now. Hub has been fighting with the hose. Or, watering the plants.

I have made my simple leek pie for dinner. Sounds gross but is really scrumptious. I have told you about it before. Cook chopped leeks in butter. Put in a oven dish. Then pour over two cans of baked beans in tomato sauce. Then add cheese. Then loads of buttery mash potatoes with grated cheese and today I fried an onion after the leeks and mixed that in with the mash. Then after seasoning with salt and pepper, put it in the oven for 35 minutes. I make loads and oddly, it’s always better the next day.

We went to our friend’s house last night. It shocks me just how many people drink so much alcohol. I was saying that if the Government made it so buying it for home went up by 50% and to buy out and about, it increased by 40% and brought the cost of activities and swimming pools, gym membership and other things that young people could perhaps get into such as ten pin bowling and there were classes to do more art and woodwork, pottery and perhaps cookery classes then in the long run,, it would save our country thousands if not millions because surely there would be no such thing as diabetes because there would be fewer people overweight and especially if they increased a pack of cigarettes by 50%? Also, it’s a fact that exercise helps to lessen depression.

Whilst I was putting the world right in my opinion, I said it’s awful for parents who work to find childcare in the summer holidays too. I mean between 6 and 7 weeks of holiday for our kids in the summer can be a nightmare. What happens is, when our kids get to about 11, parents leave them thinking they are safe in the house. My Son always had me at home and the amount of his friends who used to joke saying their Mum thought they were at home, but in fact they had been at my house and many other places where the parents were totally oblivious to. They just made sure they were home before their parents came home. more kids bored getting into trouble. So, in the 6-week holiday, keep the schools open. Get checked volunteers to come in or even payed professionals who charges the parents so much per day, and it would be much less than childcare, because there were a lot of children. Academies to learn to play football, cricket, tennis, arts and crafts and so on. So, school would be fun for the summer, even things like horse riding or swimming as there are schools with pools. Most children go to schools not far from where they live and a lot of them over nine, walk there on their own. So, no stress for parents having to even find transport. Some teachers would be paid to supervise. So, the kids would get hooked into sports or other hobbies and it would continue after school when they were much older. It would be like a way of life. Rather than the drink culture that is an epidemic in our country right now and has been for years. And for those reading this who are saying oh no to the increase of alcohol, well, why are you saying this? Is it because you can’t think of a weekend or even night, without your alcohol? If so, well, your health will suffer in the future, do you really want this for your children? What would you rather say to your colleagues or friends, oh, my Son is out drinking, or, he is playing cricket. My daughter couldn’t get out of bed on Sunday, she was hungover, or, my daughter spent the weekend cooking with her friends and then had a great time comparing one an others dishes, or our kids went camping at the weekend and took guitars and ball games.

Hub and I went to our local shop to buy mushrooms. Strawberry’s, and bread. What did we come back with? Salmon steaks and crisps. Yep, the dreaded C word.  Tomorrow though I’m going to stop eating bread again and then I will follow by crisps. We were saying we would love to go swimming, but for those who can’t see it’s so hard. We are always afraid to bump into anyone, mind you, the way I swim, they won’t get hurt, I’m like a log battling against the tide, I seem to almost kill myself heart pumping as if I have ran a marathon and I get nowhere. My friend JB is as I always say, amazing, she goes at sixish in the morning before people get there, but she lives next to the pool, we are far from the one I want to go to, there is a one near us but again it would require a taxi and before seven in the morning the taxi would be about £12 there and back. Then it’s at least £10 to swim, see what I mean? But we can go out and buy bottles of beer and a bottle of wine and come back with change of that same amount.

Right I shall go for now the start of the week begins here and I hope yours is a good one. At least better than last weeks, but not as good as next week. Xx

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS BY FIONA CUMMINGS

Today we have had views from Bangladesh, Brazil, Sweden, Germany, South Africa, Canada, Australia, UK, US and The Netherlands. I’m sure your country has looked too, but as I keep saying, I can only see the top ten countries.

Just had dinner. It was delicious. I made pulled pork for the family, to be honest, by the time I sort out the meat being a vegetarian, every kind of meat looks blooming pulled. I hate touching it but it has to be done sadly. There isn’t a chance I can get my Son to be a vegetarian again, though I am sure if Shamrock became one, he would follow, just there is no way she will ever give up meat. As for Hub, he could, but he would complain a lot. My ex was easy he was never a fan of meat, I loved it, but I love animals more. My Son saved the animals until he was thirteen then he started to eat it sadly.

I made new potatoes they were really lovely, green cabbage, butter beans and carrots with Yorkshire puddings and onion gravy.

My garden fairy has been today and put more plants into my basket. It smells lovely. I had a cow bell out there and sadly it’s gone. A shame really because it was bought on holiday and I loved it. Where it’s gone, is a mystery. I noticed it a few weeks ago. Or I should say I didn’t notice it.

I had a beautiful wind chime in my back garden. He was a Peacock. Well only half of him hangs now. It looks rather bad, I should cut it down, but it’s mangled in the roses that have sadly died this year. They were what my Mother in law gave us at our first house and they have survived eight years and moves, but this year are very sad looking.

It’s forecast to rain this weekend. But going to be warm. All of my wedding poems have been sent off and I hope they have a wonderful wedding and are madly in love forever. I did tell you years ago, I wrote a poem for a guy from him to his wife to be and some years later he sent me an email. I recognised his name as it was very unusual. I checked my files and sadly, yes, it was the same man. He was asking me to write a poem to his wife for their divorce haha. Bless. He was heartbroken. Tried to get her back. No pressure Fifi. Well it was too late for that but he wrote to me again after that to ask for another poem. This time it was for his second wedding, again his name was familiar but today I was approached to write a poem and until I called the person, I hadn’t recognised that I wrote for him two years ago. It’s a happy outcome for him though I am pleased to say.

It’s almost eight in the evening and the traffic here is dreadful. So loud. It’s like being in Deli. My Son has another hour to go at work. My kitchen looks like a murder scene so I better go and fix it as I hate it being messy.

Before I go, some fun for Friday.

What would you pick, you can only have one of these attributes?

Being very very attractive

Being a genius

Or famous for doing something great?  For me, I guess doing something great.

If you could change one thing about you, what would it be? For me, weight.

What do you think the right age is to marry? Personally, over 21 for sure.

What would you do if you were invisible for a day? Hahahah. Gosh, that’s difficult, I would not be seen, but to get anywhere, my guide dog and stick would be seen, wouldn’t it?

If you could time travel, where would you go? Me, heaven, is that included? Oh, I love that subject. My friend is very religious and she says she cannot wait to meet Jesus. My Husband thinks that is a scary view, because what if it’s all not true? But she totally believes it is. We were talking about it the other day. I hope there is such a place, but, what will it look like?

Would you rather live for a week in the past or the future? Me, hmm. Depends how much in the future, as if I could see no question, it would be the past, but what if it’s so far in the future there is no such thing as blindness and I could live a week seeing

And finally, if you could ask your pet three questions and get answers, what would they be? For me,

Why do you give so much love?

What is the best thing you like to do and are you in any kind of pain.

I hope their answers would be (Because I love you so much and I’m so happy here. Having my tummy tickled and hearing you and Daddy laughing and no pain at all.)

OK, TV time after a clean in the cooking room. Sleep well tonight and only have beautiful dreams. That’s an order. X

DIARY OF THE DANCE BY FIONA CUMMINGS

Good afternoon Bloggets. Gosh, time is just running away with me of late. I miss you guys, I need to chill so here I am at my lap top. What a busy morning, some issues talked about over the breakfast table that has left me with knots in my stomach and the plumber came out to fix our bath from leaking so dealt with him, he is really nice though, must be a plumber thing as the guys who did our kitchen were also really sweet guys. Plumbers I said… Not other workers, though the electrician was fine just the rest we had problems with. Well my bathroom plumber couldn’t wait to see our kitchen. I said nothing about the trouble we had but straight away, he walked in and noticed the holes behind the glass splashback that were not filled in by the joiner then, as he walked to the conservatory, he believe it or not, noticed the holes in the floor the joiner did. So, here’s me thinking you are going to have to look closely to see the errors, and he saw them immediately.

Anyway, a great thing has come out of his visit. He gave me the phone number of a handy man, remember the days when handy men used to charge very little? No longer. Gosh it’s where we live I’m sure, but beggars can’t be choosers and we need someone like this new guy I have the number of to do loads of things like we still haven’t put our smoke alarms up. I’m scared to go through something I shouldn’t, normally nothing would phase me hanging pictures all sorts, but, this house is like no other, it’s cursed. Smile. Everything we touch breaks and even things we don’t touch busts. So, I shall leave everything to the handy man. He’s coming next week and he sounds nice, the plumber said he is a great guy, and the plumber is a lovely trusting person. Well, that is what I think so far, but you know I have been wrong in the past. One thing about this plumber, he is fast at what he does. Gosh if we ever need anything major done he’s the guy, so at last, we are getting a portfolio of good guys. I have a great gardener, and I know a good electrician and a couple of plumbers, but it’s took all of our marriage to find these people. I can’t ever move house now. Smile.

Hub working from home today, so I can’t be as noisy as I normally am as in vacuuming the floors, filling buckets with water or just in general. But I have been sorting our shelving. We have a glass and chrome tall shelf in our bedroom full of cosmetics. I have been throwing away old things like creams and trying to identify other items. Using my ap on my iPhone, Tap Tap See. I take a picture and wait.

And wait a bit longer.

Then the answer comes over my phone.

“White and purple bottle.”” Very helpful. Another picture is taken and the answer comes up.

“Hand holding plastic bottle.”” Great. I didn’t know my hand was holding a bottle! But third time lucky, it reads what is in my hand.

“250g bottle””

Of what?

But then a box read first time, picture of lady in white dress. Then I turned the box over and it read the name of the perfume straight away. So at least I know there is a picture on it. Hahaha.

Let’s just say it took me about forty minutes and I have only done three shelves out of five. And I got interrupted by a phone call that required my brain. So, I had to go and find it.

Not in that drawer. Smile.

I made rice last night for part of our dinner. I washed it first over and over. It’s scary the arsenic that is in rice. I watched a documentary about it not long ago and it put me off rice for so long but now I’m back on it but will wash it thoroughly. Then I put boiling water on top of it in the pan. Put the lid on and boil quite fast. Stirring after a couple of minutes then turning it low with lid on. After another couple of minutes, I stir again then add more boiling water with salt and two stock cubes and stir for a minute then put the lid on and simmer for another few minutes until there is no water left in the pan then pour into a dish and it’s lovely and fluffy, put the pan back on the heat with water and salt to make it easier to clean. Getting used to putting a smaller amount in the pan as it swells up. I know how it feels. Seriously, sadly, I’m still putting weight on. I need to get on the treadmill. I hope this weekend will be the start. My friend was trying to encourage me as she is a runner. She runs so many miles per week. Across lanes, fields and parklands. Like a wild horse. Haha.

Oh, must tell you this, when the plumber came, he was walking through our sitting room. I had done my best impression of being a sighted person, not that it matters as he knows I am blind, but, still, very sighted not so sighted Fifi, wasn’t aware that the plumber had stopped to write something down. Well, what did I do? Kept walking.

Right through him.

As I caught him, haha, because when I bump into someone, I totally do a body slam. Taking them off their feet. So, there I am, arms out, hands on his very full waist and rather than just making sure I hadn’t flattened him, then at speed removing the grip I had on him, I kept my hands on him. Whilst we joked about how I at least caught him. Then he laughed and apologised for not telling me he was going to stop, and still. My grip remained firmly. As then we laughed more, with his apprentice behind me, probably wondering what the heck was going on, in a line, the plumber began to wiggle his hips and sing the Conga and proceed to do a dance. Well, still hands wrapped around him, I laughed. Then realising what I had, was, doing, I left go, red faced. Talk about familiarity?  I said to Hub, heck, I hope I haven’t scared him off, but Hub laughed and said, you are joking, he will be here every week now.  He did say as he left the front door, to keep in touch. I don’t think he meant that kind of touch though. I’m sure he meant by phone if I needed anything. Goodness knows what the young lad thought behind us.

It’s another beautiful day, my outside windows need cleaning. May do that later but of course I can’t do upstairs waiting for our window cleaners to come, they only come twice a year. They do such a brilliant job when they come and they are lovely guys, but why only twice a year?  With the pollution from the main road here the windows get so dirty. Well, saves having to pull the blind down I guess. Oh, talking of that, last night, there Hub and I are, relaxing, sofa in lounge position laid back, watching TV and the summer night breeze gently blowing in with the lovely fragrance of the sweet blooms following behind the soft wind, and suddenly there is a knock to our window, no, not the door, oh no. Our open window. There’s Hub and I totally doing an impression of flat throws on a sofa and suddenly this voice spoke through the open window.

 Ooo’oops.

*Quickly, press the button on the sofa’s and let’s get ourselves in an upright situation.* Trying to compose ourselves, Hub shyly said to me. “I’ll let you get the door. The door, I shall just go to the window. I was joking. At the front door, I was met by a lady who has took over our front garden and peers through our windows on a regular basis and I have learned that she looks into our back garden too. Long story. Anyway, she gave me a rose. It smelt so beautiful. It was off her rose bush. One rose she had on and bless her, she brought it for me. One rose, on a full bush. Not surprised as she cuts mine off as soon as they begin to bloom. It’s such a shame as they are so beautiful if only they were allowed to be left alone, but she does take the weeds up for me and for the back garden, I have a gardener who does that. I have lost so many lovely flowers though I don’t have a single flower in our garden I think the slugs must have eaten them. As my Son said a few weeks ago, Mum people who have nice gardens, are old. They spend all day in their garden. When I think back my ex used to spend hours in our garden, but he wasn’t old, just a brilliant gardener. I love flowers though and want to introduce more but will have to sort out so much more than slugs before I can tackle that. This lady told me a few weeks ago, that she found 11 snails under my shrub in my front garden. Not sure what she was doing under the shrub, but she said she lifted it up…. Well, OK, and she found them, so she stamped on them, oh no, and left them there.

She then told me that she knew I had said that there were loads in our front grass. I said no, I said ants, not snails. She then a week later, brought ant killer.

For indoors.

Got a message from my Brother last night, well at one this morning as I was online. When I say message, I’m not a Clairvoyant, it was a message on Facebook. I haven’t heard from him for months. He’s working hard as ever. He is a workaholic. As is my Brother in laws. Saying that, my Hub never stops either, and when he works from home I have such admiration for him and his dedication as he is on the phone and typing all day he got up today at half seven and started to work at eight. He wishes we could go and support his team this weekend as they are building a raft and racing it down the river for charity, but I said to him, apart from it’s miles away, how on earth would we cope with crowds of people wondering where on earth to go? It’s on the banks of the river, what, with Waggatail? Oh, yes, I can see the news headlines now. Especially that particular river is frequented by loads of gigantic rats with leather jackets on. And hard hats. Knuckle duster rings and workmen’s boots.

Well I shall leave you with that thought for now and wish you a very happy weekend, just remember that not everyone around the world is out having fun. It may seem like it, but that is because you only hear of those people. The ones who are staying in, don’t tell you. Am I, going out? Tomorrow to the shops, woopidy doo. Smile. Xx

DIARY OF GOOD FOOD BY FIONA CUMMINGS

Good afternoon Bloggets. Gosh it’s boiling hot here today. I have not long been in. I went to my favourite tea room with my lovely friend and we had a fantastic afternoon. We get on so well. She’s a great friend for sure.  She is the friend my Son says is like a footballer’s wife. She is tall, slim, beautiful and wears designer clothing in a classy kind of way. She passes my Son at work and he says she is with her friends each time he see’s her and all of them are glamorous. So, one feels compelled to try my best when I do go out, which is a good thing as I don’t normally try too hard now days I’m more practical than I have ever been, so it’s nice once in a while to try at least. So, what colours, oh, no, well you would laugh. I put on a long skirt I know it’s navy blue, but just to clarify I asked the ap on my iPhone. It read, black, that I can deal with, OK, it’s wrong as I do know it’s navy, but what it said afterwards?

Curtain.

Well, could have been worse, could have said tent!

My top I thought was red, I guessed right, as the ap agreed, but when my friend came, she always says the sweetest thing and she said I looked lovely I asked her to confirm the colour of my top, she said cerice. I asked her was she sure, was it not red? She said no, it’s definitely cerice. Hmm. Out came the hair clip my Son bought me in Japan, as it is red, so my hair now looking em, relaxed. Then my earrings came out, red, as for my hand bag and shoes, well great, as they are navy so matched the skirt.

My friend and I chat from the doorstep to the location. We travelled quite a few miles to the place I love. As we were driving along, she realised she had missed her turn. So, she went a different way, she joked with me and said she was taking me the scenic way. We laughed and I told her I loved the view from the window.

It’s in a beautiful village. Typical English village. Cottages scattered with roses climbing up and around the doors. A beautiful clock and quaint chocolate box pubs, outside most eateries, there is a dog bowl for water. Oh, it’s beautiful. We sat in the garden and really enjoyed ourselves and though it started to rain, the owner put an umbrella over us and not long afterwards, it stopped so the beautiful weather we have been experiencing could continue.

Oh, we laughed so hard our stomachs hurt. We are from the same part of the country and there is nothing like the sense of humour of Geordies. We laugh so our insides hurt but in a nice kind of pain

Two pots of tea for me, two coffees for my friend savouries and cakes later, it was sadly time to come home. It will be at least six weeks before I see her again though she only lives five minutes’ drive away. Her life is so busy. She is off on holiday to a Greek island in a few days. She is home a week then off to Italy for two weeks. Then she has loads of cricket matches to attended for her youngest Son.

It sounds like our local school are playing cricket now outside. I love the sound of that in the summer. And in our avenue of all sorts, the neighbours have started to play croquet on the lawn. This summer has been so beautiful the best I can ever remember in our part of the country that is, as for the North East where I come from, they have had it cooler and lots of rain in comparison to us. In Cornwell, they have had dangerous floods people have had to be rescued from their rooftops. Such a little country but such diversity when it comes to weather.

Today has been lovely, but tinged with sadness. It’s the anniversary of my Dad. 19 years ago, today my Darling Dad left this world for another, I hope. And I hope it is a fantastic life and land he has found.

I can’t believe it’s been so long. Gosh, I miss him so much. It doesn’t get easier, or less painful, it just changes, that’s the only way I can describe what I feel. Still, there isn’t a day when I don’t think of him. He would have loved my Hub and my Hub would have loved my Dad.

Waiting for my shopping now to be delivered. Then the painful task of putting it away. Gosh I don’t like that job. I try to stick to fresh items they are normally easier to identify.

In our news, today it says that we are going to have to work until we are 68. The retiring age was 60 or 65. They say we are living longer so should work longer. They say soon we will be living until we are well over 100. Imagine working at 99?

This blog should have been posted yesterday, but like today I have been so busy, so here it is at last. Before I go, browsing through the shopping on line today, I got thinking about trying new recipe’s. Then I went to the BBC good food guide. How do these dishes sound?

Braise butter beans or 'gigantes' with tomatoes, onion and garlic and serve with tender lamb fillet and crumbled feta cheese

Or

Pack salty Greek cheese into jars with olive oil, thyme, tomatoes, artichokes and olives - mop up the goodness with bread

Yum. I love Greek food, though of course being a vegetarian, it’s not lamb I would eat.  Will find time to write more tomorrow I promise, right now, I have meatballs to prepare for dinner and running late with work today. Xx

MY WRITING BY FIONA CUMMINGS

How many blogs I have deleted, well, writing before they become blogs. Why? Because it’s more like my old style of writing rather than what I have been writing the past two years.

Part of me wishes I could go back to how I used to write. The other part of me thinks I’m going to quit writing here because my hands are tied. How I wish I could be free to write the dark poetry or the deep words I would use or even the true stories I would talk about. But now it’s all about flowers and frills. So not always how I would like to express myself.

I can’t even write how I really feel anymore. I’m a writer imprisoned by others! Perhaps one day I will rebel and everything will come out again. How about that?

Yesterday I wrote about where I write, on some days outside, and where I would like to write. Today, I want to talk about styles of writing!

What kind of writer am I? I hope someone will answer, as I can’t really put myself on any particular book shelf. My words are so diverse. I don’t know if I can be put under any kind of category.

Your opinions I will welcome.

OH SO BEAUTIFUL BY FIONA CUMMINGS

OH, SO BEAUTIFUL

BY FIONA CUMMINGS

Oh, she is amazing

Rightly named Grace

Look at her tiny fingers

And her button nose

Her beautiful face

She has found her place

In our winter hearts

Warming every part

Oh, she is so cute

Her minuscule mitten

And knitted boots

As she looks up with such trust

To love this little darling

Is an absolute must

Oh, she is so sweet

I can’t wait to show her off

Tell all those she will meet

Who she is and what she means to us

Oh, so I make a fuss

And so, what?

When it comes to perfection

She has filled every slot

Ticking every box

Oh, look at those frilly socks

She keeps pulling them off

Tiny toes

Cheeks of rose

And skin of butter milk

Hair like silk

And eyes full of surprise

Wondering what mischief to get up to next

How can I ever get vex

At such an angel baby

Oh, she is so beautiful

Makes my life full

A PLACE IN THE SON BY FIONA CUMMINGS

Good afternoon Bloggets.

My sweet friend and our Blogget has just messaged me. He’s from India and is now in Thailand messaging me in England. Technology. I sometimes love it. I am so happy when you are happy. Especially lovely people like him. He is swimming today, oh how wonderful. My friend JB has a house in our Capital and one in beautiful Northumberland my homeland. She has a huge garden. She loves to swim and I said the last time we were together she could build a swimming pool in her back garden. Gosh, if I had her house I would. Even if she had to sell her house in London and buy a smaller property. Hub said last night when we are old and wrinkly. Haha. It would be a dream to buy a property with a garden big enough to have a pool. It would have to be indoor of course but if I get my wish, we would live abroad so it could be outdoor. I would love to live in a place all of my friends lived too so we could be together. And help each other. Just be there every day to chill and make each other’s lives better. But have our own houses to live a normal life too. I miss my friends, we don’t see one another enough. Still pondering about a reunion my heart wants to go to in September. My Husband said go, he will come too, but Still thinking.

Right now, I’m outside enjoying this glorious summer we are having. Apart from the dreadful cars flying by on the motorway outside our house, birds sing despite the engines. I’m sitting in the shade. It’s so warm. My dog has spent the past ten minutes sorting out our recycling bin. Bringing out all she likes to play with. A plastic bottle. The final straw was a can, oh, yes, that makes a lovely sound Wagga. I removed the bottle in case she cuts her mouth as they can get sharp. As for the can? I don’t have a clue where that is. She did try to give me it to throw for her, but when I said naughty, she ran off with it. Then brought a burst ball and placed that on my knee. The ball was thrown in by a child. With two dogs, not a good idea. I don’t know what has got into my dog of late, but she has gone from the rather calm dog, to a crazy hyper thing. I am wondering if her dog food has changed? Not as far as I know, as it’s the same brand, but really even the Little Fella, after a really busy working day on Saturday, then Sunday over an hour of free running, both of them were wanting to play.  Normally my Waggs would take a week to recover from such a weekend. I need her energy.

I have classic FM on and so far, I’m not impressed. We have had Ave Satani, the tune from the Omen, lovely, and this dreadful tune playing now, I think it is Wolfgang Amadeus! I’m waiting for something like Adagio for strings. Something that will relax me into writing poetry for summer weddings as I have three to do over the next ten days.

Why can’t I have a house in the south of France, or by a beautiful lake in Italy, perhaps as I sip on freshly squeezed juice looking over craggy mountains, or verdant hills in Tuscany? Rather than sitting in a back yard, surrounded by dead plantation with noisy cars and vans passing and the fragrance of our lovely dog run that is cleaned daily but only takes one dog to relax there and oh my. Suddenly an imagination is required and I have one, good job, just sometimes the above would make writing so much more beautiful for me.

My Son today has gone out to I think, the beach. Lucky thing. It’s not long before his competition for work, in the whole country, he is one of 16 to be chosen. I am sure he won’t win as he has only been at his current place of work for ten months and the other applicants or entries have on average been working there for five years plus. But to be entered is a good thing and it’s something he can do on his own without a certain person being involved. I wish he would spend time with his friends but sadly he always puts all of his eggs into one basket. He is doing something called mud Mother or something like that, to be honest, it sounds like hell but at the same time really good fun. His girlfriend is driving him. Odd really, as he has a car.

He is doing it with all the other lads he knows and should be training with them, but right now, he is training his girlfriend. To have a fitter figure I imagine for their next holiday in October where they will take their forth holiday of the year. The Caribbean is their next place to visit.

Well I have spent enough time out here, though I could write all day to you but I have to go in soon and prepare dinner. Before I shall try to write a poem so at least I can say I have done some proper writing work today, whereas writing to you isn’t really work, is it? More like chatting to you all.

Thank you for your emails. I shall write to you soon. Thank you also for suggestions for a blog topic. Please keep your suggestions coming in. Tomorrow I’m looking forward to seeing my great friend. It’s been too long. We shall have three hours of chatting and drinking cups of tea in I hope a garden of my favourite tea room. Until next time, take care. X

ALL GONE NOW BY FIONA CUMMINGS

Well every day on FaceBook, I get asked to join different groups, and some have a good reason behind the request, but todays, em, not sure what I would do in such a group.

 Urban Monk Academy

My blog page has had over 200,9000 views so far and my blog I last wrote Hair today gone tomorrow, has had 215 views since yesterday.

Today we have had views from the UK, US, Germany, Canada, Brazil, Ireland, Italy, Australia, Norway and South Africa. My stats only show the top ten countries, in total, the top ten views have been from

United Kingdom 90,875

United States 63,443

Russia, 9,284

Ukraine 7,185

Germany, 5,580

Canada, 3000,75

Australia, 2,228

South Africa, 1,450

France, 1,431

Poland, 839

And so many more countries, some I had not even heard of until you looked and I searched the wonderful name of your country.  I wish I could see every country that have viewed as I hate leaving you out, but people from other countries, may look a couple of times per week and to get into the top ten, people have to view quite a lot. Poland, gosh, will you be in the top ten next time I look? I hope so as you have been in it from the start. Mexico used to feature a lot, but it’s slipped away now, is it number eleven, or twenty four, smile, who knows, all I know is that I am still amazed by your loyalty.

I had an interview to do last night. I’m never nervous doing these kinds of things. I love the challenge.  This guy is an English teacher. Gosh, I would have loved to have been a teacher. I love it when I give talks to schools. I don’t do as many now, but the kids are so open.

We were waking up this morning by a squeaky dog. Wagga wanted the toilet.

At 5 a.m.

Hub had to leave very early for work again he is opening up for early starters. I didn’t want to get up today as facing another day of housework is a little daunting. How many more days can I even stand this?

My Son has the day off work, he is in our town, getting a haircut drinking coffee in a very posh coffee shop and buying sports clothes.

It’s boiling out there. But in my sitting room, it’s as if I have air conditioning. So cool and lovely.

Because of a peeping Tom, we need badly a solid gate in our back yard. So that is next on the list.  Long story. Smile, but at least the person I’m talking about was honest and said they were looking.

I put a bath mat in the washing machine today. I thought I put it on the short wash as that was all that was in. Luckily before my Son ran off for his day out, I caught him and asked him how long my machine was on for? I thought twenty minutes. Turned out it was blooming 3 hours and 20 minutes. Oops. Well quickly he put it on rinse and that will have to do.

Times like this I need to know Braille. Then I could read what we wrote down as Boy Wonder read the machine to Hub, Hub Brailed the answers he is fine, he can do the washing and know what number to put it on.  Thing is, Hub doesn’t do the washing. Ha-ha.

He does help with the ironing though and he is great, only thing he can’t iron, is shirts. Not sure why, as his tops t/shirts are great.

My eating plan has so gone down the toilet. I had loads of toast today, really failed. I had four. Remember I did so well I got down to eating no bread or potatoes. For weeks, I did that it killed to get there but then I totally failed.  If only I felt better when I ate bread, but it makes me feel bad and I am starving a couple of hours later.

So, a bit of a boring day, floors, dusting, worktops need a polish in my kitchen rather than a wash. And ironing, on a boiling day. Not good at least the steak casserole I made yesterday is still there for dinner tonight. I made some for dinner yesterday and there is some left for tonight. Not sure what I will eat. I made a quiche yesterday, I can’t believe it, it was, huge and gone after only five hours. Only eaten by the three of us, but nothing left, here’s me thinking it would do as a snack for yesterday and today? Haha, not a chance. BW has asked me to make another one today. Nope, but I will for the weekend. I made it with six eggs, cheese, tomatoes, mushroom, green pepper and onion. Hub loves it as does our Son, hence why there was nothing left by last night.

I have some work to do in our garden too. Oh, and the big bathroom to clean. Still waiting for the plumber to come and fix the plug. It is under guarantee but it’s been weeks and weeks perhaps two months since he said he would come out, I know he will, just when? Every week he says he will let me know, but he forgets. Oh, and another phone call to the tax people and later I have a phone call from our bank they are trying to get me to change our mortgage over from one bank to theirs. Thing is, we are happy with who we have, but they swear they can save us money. And, I have a call to make to my mobile provider as my contract is coming to an ending. Few. Can I do this in four and a half hours? I don’t like to work when Hub gets in. I do dishes and perhaps the floor for last thing at night, but that’s all. So, I better get off, oh, and how can I forget, there is the blooming dog run to clean. Oh, the joys of being a stay at home whatever I am.

HAIR TODAY GONE TOMORROW BY FIONA CUMMINGS

Well off we went, the heavens were crying tears of huge cool drops on us. I had decided to take Waggatail to guide me rather than my white cane. As you know, she doesn’t like city life, she panics when she hears cars of plenty, and our city has loads of all kinds of vehicles. But today was different, Hub was taking the Little fella who by the way is miles bigger than the wagging one but she is older, he is our little boy. Hub was slightly anxious as we had never been to this part of town before. He loaded the ap on his iPhone called Blind Square. Hmmm.

Waggs was delighted she was out, she does love being out and the harness doesn’t faze her. My last guide dog hated putting that on, once on she was OK, but Waggs would put on her own harness if she could!

Both got mobile phones, check. Paying cards, check, dog treats check and doggy doodle bags check.

Umbrella’s? no not very blind friendly, our left hand has our dog harness and our right hand has to be free to grab the dog lead to correct our dogs if they decide to, well, be dogs and shout over to another dog asking to play. Or, just do what Waggs loves to do, sniff every corner and refuse to walk until she has totally sniffed what she wants to sniff. On previous experience, this can take a while. Also, our right hand to carry anything, such as a dog bag full of something one wouldn’t like to carry around a busy town. Or just to open doors or put our hand out to touch something we are not sure about.

Also, umbrellas are not safe for us as we can’t guide them past people’s heads, worst still, their eyes with the spikes that love to pop out.

As we headed to our bus stop, I said to Hub, lets chance it and quickly run well, almost run, well, walk fast, to the next stop, as that has a shelter. He said, no it’s far away an we will miss our bus, then we will have to wait fifteen minutes, I insisted, I said I’m not standing in that I would rather miss the bus and wait for another in the dry shelter. So thankfully he was a good Husband and obeyed. Smile.

Well, no pressure Fifi, I blooming walked so fast, trying not to slip on the wet leaves and splash too hard going through the puddles, as we don’t know they are there until we are in the middle of one. Our dogs are great, they walk around them. Whilst letting us feel the cool dirty water on our feet. I’m sure they have a little smile on their faces that normally have a look of total innocence on them. My last dog, Black Beauty used to walk around the puddles and make sure there was a big gap for me to miss them too, I used to know this as my right foot just used to tease the puddle and get slightly wet.

Up steps down them passing loads of cars going into our local zoo something planned for the monkeys that day, obviously as it was a Saturday and our cheeky monkeys are normally away from their weekly enclosure at weekends.

Well, one thing, my Waggatail doesn’t follow. So, she headed towards the crossing for the road on my right to go to the park. I had to say the commands, not today.

Straight on she went and crossed the really wide road well thankfully Hub heard me pounding behind him and warned me there was someone there at the bus stop. Otherwise the poor person perhaps would have been bounced into by a big blonde wet blind person.

The man luckily spoke and he said there was a bus due in ten minutes, so we must have just missed the one at our first stop, but we were dry under the shelter.

The cars splashed by wheels getting a good wash.

The rain on the roof of the shelter was like dry peas being tipped on a tin lid.

Our bus came and on we got looking like drowned rats. Please let there be a seat? And don’t make it awkward for us? When we are trying to find a seat it’s so hard, as no one speaks and I for sure don’t want to sit on a knee. It has, been known. It’s also been known for me to remove hair from heads as I have gone along and the bus has pulled away or stopped suddenly and I grab the closest thing.

Woops.

Luckily, we found a seat with two together. As we went the long journey I pondered. Oh, please let this be my lovely old hair dresser who did a runner. Hahaha. Well, left mysteriously his last place, you know, the place we could get to with such ease? I was devastated when I learned that he had left and no one would tell us where he had gone. No way I was going to get my hair cut by anyone else. I know if I hadn’t have found him, I would have to, but I have tried the rest and I had found the best, and he had gone. Not only was, is, he the best hairdresser, he is a lovely man, the kind you would want as your brother. Or great friend.

Well this place he was meant to be at, was so far from our comfort zone. As we drove by, Blind square was in Hubs ear telling him all the nice shops we were passing, very nice but we were on the bus, hopefully it will be so useful when we get off?

Hmm. It wasn’t. It was rubbish. We got so lost, the rain kept coming, the town was so busy, tourists everywhere, no one knew where we were meant to be going, oh, the worst part was crossing the roads we didn’t know. One time, there was a van parked so we had to cross further up and there were loads of bikes parked there of course we didn’t know this until we stepped off the kerb. Another road lead us into road works with cones around where the step up should be. Hub had his earpiece in trying to get location details. He couldn’t hear me shouting on him like a mad woman. My dog was doing so well, she stopped me from walking in the middle of the road works, but she froze, waiting for further instructions, oh, God, where to go, how to get to the kerb? My heart was pounding. I was terrified. Trying to remember what a lovely lady was telling me hours before about slow breathing, suddenly my lungs were battling against my mind and I went into panic mode, but not half as bad as I used to get. This time last year I would have passed out, but I was still standing.

When I say passed out, not really, just felt like it.

Well, a man said to me, love, he is just to your right, he took my arm and lead me to safety, the people in our city are the best, I have never felt such kindness as our folk, when we can find them separately to the tourists where they seam to way out more than locals.

Where is Hub, why did he not wait for me? Shall I stand still and call him? No, I plodded on Wagga was loving it, her tail was wagging away, and she hates the rain bless her, she weaved me in and out of bins and objects I wasn’t aware of. Avoiding lamp posts thankfully as they hurt. I was scared she would walk me too close to the road I would come off the step and fall under a bus, well, you know me, always think positively. Smile.

So, I kept us to the building, any people peering through the popular shop windows, well, sorry like, but I need to be there.

I thought the rain would mean people would stay away but I guess if you have a holiday planned, you don’t want to be staying in.

Where we needed to be is the most popular place for people visiting our town as that is where the most history is.

At last, what seemed to be forever, I found the man himself, to our hairdresser, oh, no, this nine-minute walk was now up to thirty odd. I had found the Hubster and the little Fella who put his wet head in my hand as if to say, Mummy, there you are. See our last dog, Hubs Suki would have refused to walk I her Mummy was far away. LF just does as his Daddy tells him. His flat or had gone all curly with the rain.

We stood trying to get our Barings, we were now twenty minutes away, oh goodness. But which direction? Blind Square just kindly kept telling us what shops there were near us which is a great thing. But not really giving us instructions.

We asked and asked again.

Seven times, then eventually got close to where we needed to be.

Oh, I was shattered. Mentally. Please let us find the place and moreover, let it be the right guy? What if it was another man with his name?

Fifty minutes later, our nine-minute walk was over, we were so close an yet so far away. An inch is as good as a mile when you can’t see. Hundreds of doors. Windows, so much glass, where was number 51? I called the shop and a kind lady asked what were we standing by? Hahaha. Good question. I could tell her what our software said? A pub nearby she said she would come for us, bless her, she did, we were forty seconds from the shop door.

Oh my, once in, it was packed. We got a seat, our dogs were dripping, I looked so bad, clothes clinging to my fullumtious figure. Hahaha.

I sat there, in shock. I said to Hub, I feel as if I am being tipped backwards as if I am really going to faint, he said he felt exhausted too, but reassuring me, we did it. Yep, but we had to find our way back home now…

Among the noise, I heard my man, I found him, it was our guy, oh brilliant, like a comfy cushion on a tiresome day. He came for me it was a great feeling, the shop was difficult but because he knows me he was great as he told me about the large step up to get my hair washed. I love it as he does all the work now, from greeting to washing to even making me a cup of tea.

The lovely girl made Hub one too, I guess bless him, the colour was drained out of him.

My hair was cut and I felt so good. My guy is such a brilliant stylist. I am proud of him he is going alone just he better take me with him if he decides to move again.

Now for the journey home. Passing smells from bakers I would have loved to have sampled, but priorities first and right now we just need to learn this route, still raining, we went back a totally different way and it took us just over fifteen minutes. We got to a place in town we knew, so next time, we will go that way, rather than the way we were told to do on the Sat Nav. We used Apple going and Google coming back.  Google was better. Hub and LF did really well, proudly LF walked and the familiar sounds were a welcome especially the nightmare we had going. Goodness knows how we would have done that without our dogs, and they loved it. I just wish we could see to live a simple life easier.

The bus journey was long and we were soaked through because we waited twenty minutes for a bus, just missing the one we needed. We couldn’t sit together but a man said I could sit next to him and he talked the socks off me. Well, not that I was wearing any but he chatted for sure. When we were almost home, I suggested to Hub that we went to our local restaurant for lunch. So, we got off the bus at a different place and walked there. Met by the lovely staff and had a most enjoyable meal where we could reflect on our big adventure.

DIARY OF THE PLUCKER BY FIONA CUMMINGS

The clock has struck midnight. I am actually writing from bed. I have not stopped all night and had a busy day. I wrote a poem for my blog page about how blind people fall in love, it sounds comical to those of us who are blind, but I get asked this question all the time from sighted people.

You know me, poetry takes me minutes to write so I wasn’t too long at my lap top enjoying myself, as I do enjoy myself chatting to you all.

I spent time writing to a few of my Bloggets and then the tax people again. What a pain in the butt they are being. The Tax people, not my Bloggets. Seriously, dealing with total incompetent people it’s driving me mad. The left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing.

Well at least now I have the phone number of a manager and it’s her direct number. But it took loads of phone calls and me losing the plot in the end to get that.

I got thinking tonight, as I stood at the kitchen sink as I do more often than I would like to, I never take for granted that my Husband and Son walk through the door after work each day. Especially as so many emergency services go flying by the house. When I hear the front door being opened and the Wagging one’s nails tapping along the wooden floor to run to the door, because of course, everyone who comes to the door comes only to see her. I thank God.

Tonight’s dinner was a success thankfully, though the meatloaf was a bit of a disaster. Let’s just say, it kind of collapsed.

Tomorrow, or later I am off to our city to find our new hairdressers. Now you may remember, it’s the missing hairdresser. The one who used to do my hair, but left to go and work elsewhere, and leaving me looking like a yeti. I have not had a haircut since December. Hahaha. I have been looking for my hairdresser for months. Now, I think I have found him, but he is in a part of town I can’t even begin to tell you where. All I know so far, is you get off the bus and turn right…. How many roads? Turns, when and where? How many bins will there be in our way or bollards or worse, people, parked cars vans on path ways, and steps, oh, the dreaded S, word. I hate them.

So many doors, which one to go through, plant pots, which direction next? Well, I’m up for the challenge, but is Waggatail? Oh God help us. The Wagging one will love the fact she is out, and love working, she has not got a problem with the harness. But the location? Oh, she will flip I am sure. And worse, do her business in town. Let’s see. If you are a local, and you see the sun go down, you will know it’s me bending down picking doggy doodle up.

I can’t take my white cane as no way I can do that without knowing the route. I hope the next blog I am writing telling you that my Waggatail has done her Mummy proud.

We have down loaded Blind Square. The ap for navigation, but it only tells you when you are there not so much how to get there until you have done the route then you drop a pin or something, and next time it will help more. And no ap, tells you about parked vehicles or market stalls or moreover, long wires stretched across a pavement attaching to a guitar. Well I haven’t managed to disconnect a man from plucking yet, but there is always a first time.

I’m oddly excited for the challenge in eight hours. Is that weird? I hope I will be writing you a blog, and not from a hospital hahaha. Sometimes I do wonder, if I am mad, what are we thinking of, we can’t see for goodness sake. What are we doing leaving the safety of our house? I would love to know what my normal fearful face is doing whilst walking? I expect I look absolutely terrified. We have to listen to every single thing we pass remember every move and item we bump into even if it is just gently. To miss it on the way back. I must say the past few times, I haven’t took any Grannies out, normally I walk into one and lift one from her feet, catching her with my other arm the one not gripping for life onto my white cane. I always say sorry, as I gently put her back on her flats, but oddly, she doesn’t answer.  One thinks she is perhaps in a little bit of shock, that she has been Fifi’d.

Last night we had a great night out. We went to a pub quiz.  I love them it’s been years since I have been to a pub quiz. And we didn’t come last. We got 38 out of 50. I think I answered four Hub about the same and collectively about 20 and our two friends the rest. I got the picture quiz answer, now, that’s a first. My friend described and I got it right, and Hub got a word question. How visual are we? Smile.

Well as it is heading towards half twelve my Sons Girlfriend is still here of course. Can you believe this, kids have no shame, she turns up in her pyjama’s? I mean, she isn’t a nine-year-old child, going for a PJ party, talk about ready honey? It’s awful. Shameful. They just have no shame at all.

On that note, I shall dash and hope you all have a lovely peaceful weekend. X

LOVE IS BLIND BY FIONA CUMMINGS

LOVE IS BLIND

BY FIONA CUMMINGS

You excite me with your voice

Your words flirt with my questions

 A conversation which I rejoice

Your answers are so kind

In real life, we hadn’t connected

But our hearts are side by side

 Butterflies dance

I want to take a chance

then at least I tried

as you came closer that day

I never wanted you to go away

Your eyes couldn’t see me

Nor mine yours

But from that moment we just open doors

We are together

Stronger we become

Never too far from each other

Your trembling fingertips touched my face

What did you see?

I knew you belonged to me

Never had I been touched in such a way

I wanted you more and more from that day

As you came even closer our lips met

My heart flew around my body

Like a jet

Butterflies came aboard

And we flew to the stars

My insides screamed yes

Whilst the world thought we’d end up a mess

But we did that day caress

And history is the rest

I’m now with the best

Whilst we can’t see one another across a room

I know you are there

I feel your love in a way

That I just want to share

Like those with sight

My eyes fill with joyful tears

You just excite

And wipe away my fears

When I feel your hand in mine

Our hearts entwine

It’s as if I see with my fingertips

Each part of your hand

Warms my soul

As one, I’m the flame, you’re the coal

I can’t explain it really

 Only I feel whole

I love you to the moon

Around the stars too

Up the highest mountain

And across an ocean blue

Though vision we do not have

No one can say we don’t love

For you are my sweetheart

And I pray we will never part

I don’t see you through my eyes

But I feel you through my mind

Soul, and body

I know our love is kind

So, we don’t have vision

But our connection was on a mission

And we found each other in the end

And in you I have my best friend
