FI'S FUN FACTS FOR FRIDAY

Good day Bloggets, well we have had gales all night and have continued today. We didn’t put out our recycle bins last night as we knew they would end up all over the street. Others did though and I guess there is a mess today as I could hear cans and so on rolling around the cobbles whilst pretending to be normal and act as though I was sleeping… Three this morning I guess I had the start of shut eye.  Doesn’t help having a big box of sweeties next to my bed from Christmas? Though one must say I was rather gutted to feel the bottom of my jelly bean tub!

Three days in a row I have had the beastie girl LC. Hub had interviews two days this week, but he snuck out without her for a third day leaving her to kiss me all day, as that is all she does. Waggatail has discovered teens bedroom has chocolates and has been helping herself not only that, but in comfort. She has been lying on the bed whilst munching her way through walnut whips.

I’m not impressed.

We really do need a child gate. She leaves the evidence all over the landing carpet, boxes and wrappers. She could at least tidy up after herself?

I have a load of vegetables for tea, and two things out of the freezer, now what? Not sure. They are in boxes and I have been avoiding things like that for a while, but there is only so many fresh produce you can keep fresh when you shop once a week. I think, some kind of meat, I just hope it will be defrosted by dinner tonight. It’s not too big so it should be. I only could eat half of my meal last night, so kept half that I hadn’t served for today and had it for lunch. So I doubt I will be wanting much, I have salad so may be happy with that.

Teen has a driving lesson soon; I just wish we could take him out for practice.

But no insurance in the world would cover that!

OK, its fun Friday, so here are some facts you can bore people with during a dinner party. Hehehe. God help my guests tomorrow evening.

Birds don't urinate.

Mexico has 68 official languages.

The Queen of the UK is the legal owner of one-sixth of the Earth's land surface.

Brazil is the 5th largest country in the world.

A beautiful face attracts more partners than a beautiful body, according to a scientific survey.

Every 40 seconds, someone commits suicide.

Kissing someone for one minute burns about 2 calories.

The world consumes close to 2.25 billion cups of coffee every day.

Energy drinks still don't have as much caffeine as a Starbucks coffee.

Coffee is most effective if consumed between 9:30 am and 11:30 am.

In Korea and Japan, there is a Cat Cafe where you can go to drink coffee and hang out with cats for hours

http://www.factslides.com/imgs/First-Webcam.jpgThe first webcam was created in Cambridge to check the status of a coffee pot.

Coffee beans aren't beans. They are fruit pits.

On that note, I will go and percolate. Haha. Happy Friday Bloggets.

WEIGHT LOSS DIARY

Sitting in my conservatory, it’s not too warm in here, heating knocked off, but it’s fresh and at last a sunny day though outside its freezing. I have the dog run to clean, I can’t wait…. Not…..

It’s a bad enough job but when it’s cold, worse.

Just found out today I have an aftercare visit from lady from Guide dogs next week. Oh dreading that. Really I am. Every six months we have to have one. I don’t know anyone who actually enjoys those visits. I hate being watched on my walks. I feel as anxious as I am already terrified going out.

Good news, Teen passed his maths at last. I am delighted for him. Third time lucky, funny thing is, he was always brilliant at maths always in the top classes when he was younger but then he didn’t get on with one of his teachers and it all went wrong from then on. If only teachers knew how much they could affect the kids’ lives? Some teachers only do the job for the holidays and money, but some for the love of teaching and sadly the latter are far and few between.

Looks like we have new neighbours two doors along. My neighbour across the road text me to say the house that has had the sold sign up for six months at last has moved in. I just hope they are not renting and are there to stay, since we moved here over two years ago, that house has seen so many people as it’s been used as a rental property. It’s a lovely friendly street and I hope they are here for the long hall so they can join in our happy avenue of all sorts.

I had a lovely surprise visit today from my brother, this time I knew it was him at the door, haha haha. It is great to see him, he is so lovely and it’s a fantastic feeling to feel that love I have missed for so many years and at the end of the month my youngest Niece is coming too. Gosh it’s a beautiful feeling to at last have a family.

Today is 16 years since the death of my Mum. I remember that day like it was just six years ago. It was as if I had been forced through a tunnel of hell and I was so lost in there and couldn’t find my way out. It was only five and a half months since my Dad died and six months since I lost my sight. All three factors came as an enormous shock, though all I guess were inevitable.

We aren’t having a holiday this year as don’t have the funds, but I think we are going to spend more time with friends and hopefully visiting our family. Hubs dad is in his late seventies and we only see him about once a year because of the kindness my brother in law shows in bringing him to us. So I think we are going to have to get the train to visit him, problem is, it’s a lot of money as a taxi to the train station is almost £12 there and same back then the train fair and then Dad in law has to pick us up at the train station and that is another half an hour travel and my Father in law is seldom sober, so I do worry about all of us…

But I will put my foot down and make an effort to see him. I miss my Mother in law so much. I only knew her for a year and I really loved her. She was the most perfect Mother in law, but again sadly she died.

The roses in our garden live on that she planted originally in our other house, we transplanted them and they are still going strong.

I must phone our new gardener. I have a number from my friend Arty, but just to remove weeds, they ask a fortune, about £50 and our back garden is tiny. My Son makes me laugh; he keeps saying he should get a job as a land scape gardener? Hahahahaha. He can’t be bothered to pick up a solar lamp that has been rolling around the garden for a couple of months now, every time I go out as I can hear it, it stops rolling. I am sure that freezer pixie from yesterday is also inside the lamp and see’s me coming, has a huge grin and stops moving, I still don’t know where it is.

I bought some red candles you know those large ones? They are at either side of my staircase window which is a big window, I have floor standing candlesticks with them in and with the red curtains and red roses in the vase I think it will look lovely.

It’s funny in my mind, my house is so colour co-ordinated, if I ever get my sight back, and it will be so interesting to see everything from eyes with sight?

I wonder if I would change anything.

As for looking in the mirror? Heck…

Talking of mirrors, my brother since he has lost all his weight, and I noticed he has lost more since a few weeks ago, is becoming vain. My Nieces Husband was joking about my brother always looking at himself. Well we have a mirror in our hall and as my brother was leaving, he took some time to say goodbye. Hahheheheh.

I’m so please for him, though to always watch what he is eating, must be hard.  For me it’s sweets and bread. Also not enough exercise.

Hub has started to go on the treadmill at last it’s getting used…

Though having said that, teen gets on from time to time, he is so fit, he can run fast for over half an hour. He is a really beautiful lad, so tall fit and charming. When my friend Geordie was here yesterday, he spoke to her in such a manner, I was really proud of him.

Mind you, I think he has eyes for her. She is rather beautiful

According to teen.

I have had loads of texts from my friend since our get together yesterday, bless her she really had a lovely day, but it’s mutual, we enjoy each other’s company so much.

Some health news today

Diabetes life expectancy is improving.

People with type one diabetes die younger than those without the condition. Men with the condition live eleven years less than those without it and women thirteen years less than those who don’t have diabetes.

However previous studies showed a gap of fifteen/twenty seven years.

If only people knew of the side effects, I have friends who are now blind and there is no cure because of the above condition. It does scare me, not because of sight loss, I’m beyond that, but the other illnesses that can be involved. I may look into how to do better in avoiding this illness. My Mum had it badly and my brother has it now, but he is losing so much weight I don’t think he will be affected for long now.

Off to make a healthy tea… Does healthy equal no taste? Not always. In fact I being vegetarian, fresh salads and so on am so much better than the awful frozen food you can buy.

Problem I have is I can’t eat Mash potato or baked without butter. I would rather not bother.

I keep trying to lose weight, but it keeps finding me.

I knew a lady who was sorting out clothes with her little Niece after the lady had lost a lot of weight; she held up a huge pair of slacks and said

“Wow, I remember wearing these when I was 199!”

The Niece replied

“Gosh Aunt,

 How old are you now?”

So have you tried the garlic diet? You don’t lose weight, but you look slimmer from a distance.

Your body is the baggage you must carry through life. The more excess the baggage, the shorter the trip.

Okay, I’m off now, tomorrow the day before our girls come.  Can’t wait. It will be Christmas day all over again as we have their gifts. Later gators. X

CONTACT

Good day Bloggets, well, I have had my tonic. My wonderful friend Geordie has been. Oh she is adorable. So light and full of life. We can turn serious subjects into fun and fun into hilarity. We have boys a similar age that helps too.

The subjects we cover are ridiculous. Oh my word. We see each other about two hours per month and make up for that whole month. Well, she does,

I’m shy and hardly say a word. Hahahahaa.

My eyes have gone from total pain to nipping, so not too bad today at least I can open them. My boy is working again bless him, he takes after his Father as he is a hard worker, or was that hard work?

Joking…

Oh I am going to have to change my mobile phone tone. I changed it last week and from a nice normal bell it’s now a vintage bell and it’s like a bell that would be rang during the plague in London all those years ago.

Not that I ever heard that bell but like one would imagine it to be. I almost jump out of my skin and that would be a lot of skin. It was Hub on his way from work just now. He asked me if I have seen the news. Nope, I’m not going near that TV. And haven’t had the radio on. Well he told me the dreadful news about terrorists in Paris. It’s disgusting, absolutely horrific and I really can’t say how sorry I am for the innocent people who have been brutally murdered by these criminals. I swear the world is going mad. What gives people the right to kill in shops, café’s schools places of worship and so on?

I suppose I will never understand those monsters who do such crimes, just as I don’t understand anyone British or whatever who kill. There is no need I wish people could understand that we could all live next to each other in harmony if only the crazy’s would stop. And they are crazy, they must be. A sound minded person wouldn’t commit such atrocities!

What causes criminality? Media? Games? Greed? Lack of intelligence? All of those things perhaps.

My Son won’t watch the news these days; he says it’s too depressing. I agree, though I feel compelled to listen or watch it on TV at least once per day. I was saying yesterday how our News has changed in the UK. Some years ago, in the morning the news would be fresh, not like now old stuff from the night before. Then afternoon used to be different, not now, and evening news was always different again. But one thing that I have noticed, Crimes are reported and there is not follow-ups anymore, example the bin waggon that killed those poor people in Glasgow before Christmas, nothing has been said about it or the person I should say who was driving it. Only that he is still alive. At one time our reporters would be knocking down doors to get to the bottom of the story. Two men jumped out of the vehicle before the driver at high speed crashed into poor members of the public.

Why did he do it? Not a heart attack as it would be reported straight away. So why don’t we know and we are expected just to forget the story and not bother, well I want to know why that happened if it was medical, surely it would be best to report the facts? If it’s malicious, then he should be charged!

Someone has told the other two passengers in the van to keep quiet, I wonder why?

Well, this wasn’t’ what I was going to talk about, all because of the bell, my chat has been changed. I will talk about the subject I intended tomorrow.

Meanwhile if you want to contact me I’m on Twitter, though I’m not a fan of that, and if you require any poetry or speeches to be written for you then please get in touch, I have had eleven requests this week for Valentine’s Day on the 14th of February, so a lot of my time is spent doing that. I’m honoured you trust  me to write words for your loved ones, ha, as especially considering how much I love to write dark poetry, but when it comes to love, I will try to be romantic and not a dark moment in sight, though I was once asked to write for a man who wanted to send his soon to be ex-wife a poem and let me tell you some of the words he wanted to use were not at all exceptable, so I told him no can do.

DIARY FOR TODAY

I have just found out my Aunt is coming for my birthday. Well, can’t wait…

I just hope she is better as in health next time? It’s going to be a long day. Hub and I are not friends. He has just been asked to work in London for four days per year something to do with Parliament. I told him no. It has something to do with his last job. Oh it’s not good in the Fifi household. Well, he promised he wouldn’t return to that life again. But he loved it I’m sure. His health didn’t and I hated it.

It’s not been a good day. Been ill with my eye pain. Until five I couldn’t open them they were so sore. It’s not a good week as the anniversary for the death of my Mum coming up and I miss her so much I always feel so sad this time of year. No one should be without their Mother ever. It’s a cruel life when they leave you as especially when you need them so much. I miss not having grandparents for my Son. He has always only had me and I feel so bad for him. To be able to share responsibility of him would be good. Then to know he had others to turn to better. The result now is he is a closed book like I was for so many years, in fact most of my life. I really don’t want that for my Son.

Tea was disgusting tonight. I couldn’t be bothered to properly cook, so it was a large bought steak mince pie with different veg and dumplings, all because I really couldn’t’ stand and peel potatoes. I’m starting to feel better now, just left with a headache. But have floors to mop and a shirt to iron as Hub has to do interviews tomorrow. Two days of it.

Then I think he is finished employing people for his office.

I have my fantastic friend coming tomorrow. I am looking forward to seeing her. She will cheer me up, she always does. She works hard so hardly see her but when we get together, it’s great.

Happy Christmas to my friends in Russia the 7th is the big day for you all. I hope your dreams come true and this year will be better than last. I hope your health will improve and your minds will be healed.

I miss my friends there, but they will I hope come through their tunnel that they are in right now. For every tunnel has another opening.

Teen visiting his father next week for only a day so I don’t need to worry about him being away too long. It’s his Fathers birthday.

Helicopters are circling our house. “I’m not guilty Sir.”

Oh made a huge error with the shopping this week. Really really cross with myself. We are desperate for bedding. So I decided to order online. It wasn’t cheap but it was half price. I bought a sheet and duvet cover. Well, I thought. Turns out that I ordered two sheets. They are nothing special either. I am as angry as we so badly need bedding and I can’t get out getting it. Dare not order anything else. I will wait longer, I have been waiting four months, and another few weeks won’t matter.

Teen out with friends. He’s had a busy day.

We ordered a carpet cleaner as it’s cheaper than getting someone in. The cleaner is again like the sheets, half price. In fact less than half price. So I guess that will be my job end of week, let’s hope I don’t shrink the carpets? It’s just upstairs and the staircase.

Hub and I said if it’s too difficult to manage, we will just sell it again and it still will be cheaper than getting someone in or buying a full price one. Also so far, I have not come across a nice carpet cleaner. Hehehe. I don’t know what it is, but they all have attitudes not to be admired, unless I have been unlucky, but they are rude.

Hey, what do you think if I’m successful with my carpets, should I start my own business? What do you reccon?

“Blind carpet Cleaner, will come anywhere where there’s muck…. A touch of class. Insurance required!”

Okay, on that note, I will go as my dogs are driving me crazy fighting over the same toy. Xx

RP LULLABY LOVE

I heard from someone yesterday who is pregnant with my eye condition, I say my eye condition, I don’t own it, but it’s easier than spelling that huge word out and I could call it RP, but some people wouldn’t know what that stood for…

So if you are pregnant, try to practice on a friend’s baby or family member, they may try to tell you how to do it but at the end of the day, you do what makes it right for you.

If you can’t get a real baby to put on the nappies, then a doll. Sounds silly, but anything you can do to practice, will help and eliminate stress when the time comes, as when that time comes, believe me, you won’t have time to think.

I didn’t have any practice and wish I had. Feeding babies with a bottle? Well you have to measure the powder out and then add the water, if you put water in first then powder; it’s so much more difficult. You can get jugs with tactile lines on. If you turn the teat around in the baby’s mouth from time to time, it helps with their wind and with them taking the milk. It’s amazing how your baby will learn to get food he/she will have to come to you rather than you feeling for their mouth, if you hold the bottle,  Use one finger releasing it from the grip of the bottle to feel for babies mouth then the teat will go where your finger is.

Obviously always wash hands before dealing with baby, and afterwards.

Never ever lay baby on the table on one of those changing mats, the baby will wriggle and the mat will slip off the table onto the floor.

Always do things like changing nappies on the ground and have everything at hand what you need for example, baby wipes open, nappy sacks open the bag ready and nappy ready. Disposable nappies fasten at the front, sounds silly? Well, I didn’t know when I had mine and your brain goes to mush.

When your child gets old enough to crawl, learn to carpet ski. In fact skiing is good for not standing on toys too as really that will hurt to stand on a toy let alone break the toy.

When I used to go out I went with my ex Husband so he could see there was no problem. As for my now Husband, he had his two girls and had to carry them on his back in one of those harnesses, but I don’t think that will be good for your back, I asked him how he used a pushchair? He told me he would pull it behind him, I did the bad thing of laughing as that really would look odd, but I felt so bad after that as what choice did he have? He couldn’t push the pram as he would crash it into something so pulling it with one hand and using a guide dog or cane in the other hand. I can tell you he did a fantastic job and brought the girls up so well. He was a great Dad when they were growing up despite having family members on his in-law side telling him he was doing everything wrong.  At the end of the day, you do what makes it right for you.

It’s obvious that if you are pregnant you are going to stress about having your baby, but if you are blind or sighted, you will panick, it’s called being a Mother. If you are comfortable, your baby will be. Your baby will pick up on any tension. Just keep things in order, label them if you can with Braille or a fantastic pen friend, I wish they were around when I had my baby, if you can’t read Braille, get yourself a penfriend please? They can be bought from the RNIB in the UK, not sure about other countries but the internet will tell you. If you need any more information please feel free to contact me.

My contact details will be coming up for this year in a blog coming to a cinema near you soon. Hehehe. My email address is the same as last year, but if you don’t have it, don’t worry, I will be publishing it soon.

For New RP Mum and Dads out there, you have your time, your love for your child and that is the most important thing. Don’t be afraid, just try your best to get in as much practice as possible before junior comes along.

With Lullaby love.

A SUNNY RP CLEAN UP

I know the sun is shining because my eyes burn though there is no light getting into them. It must look funny when I am in a car.

 Not driving I must add.

I have to close my eyes if it’s sunny. The driver and sighted passengers must wonder why? But our eyes still are affected though there is no sight there.

I used to dread sunny days when I could see, as it used to blind me, quite sad really when you consider that my eye condition Retinitis pigmentosa, you can’t see in the dusk and night time, so sun? Yeah? Em, no, not really. I used to just see white in front of me and then I would go into a building and again not be able to see for ages until my eyes adjusted, dark rooms/corridors? Forget those. Give me the right environment and I could see crystal clear, but only bits of what I was looking at. If I was looking at someone’s face, I would see for example their eyes, well, on good days that is, most of the time, only a part of one eye. I would have to move my eyes around their face to see other features.  If the persons face moved quickly to the left and right, I wouldn’t be able to see anything.

We with RP have to focus before we can tell what the subject is. It is a really complicated eye condition and no wonder in the early days, Drs used to bring in students to look and even Doctors used to get excited to have a look into the then unknown.

Now days, I can’t see anything and it has taken me years to stop even trying to look. Really, when I lost my sight, it was the end of my world. It took years before I realised that I could cope. Still I am in a lot of pain with my eyes and another day like today I feel as though both of my eyes are being kicked, or poked really hard with pens. This is the only way I can think about telling you what the pain is like for me.

It’s bad enough not being able to see but to be dealt with this horrible tiring pain is so bad too.

Some people wonder why we are so tired. Well, it’s because we have to constantly remember where things are, where we have put items and who else in the family may have left something lying around.

Our minds always working overtime. Thinking about things that sighted people just take for granted. Dusting in my house is a real mind game. I have so many ornaments and some would say why make life difficult? Why not get rid of everything? Why? My house is my home, I just need to keep my memory and take care.

Cooking? Oh as I have said before, Hub and I need to lose weight, so we don’t starve. Again, making a meal takes up so much energy, but we do it and no one can take that away from us. Some people are shocked that I iron, yes, me and millions of other V.I.P’s. Who else would do it for us? We can’t all afford a maid.

For me, ironing I always fill it over the sink in case I miss the tiny hole with the water. Dry the bottom and make sure it’s always clean as when it gets that awful lime scale on it, you could put brown marks on your clothes without knowing about it. I plug it in and if I have to put the iron down to get another item of clothing, I put it in its holder with the wire towards me. I feel for the wire and it leads me up to the handle of the iron without touching the hot plate.

As for the item I am ironing, well start at one end and you can’t go wrong. Always keep the item tightly pulled. Hang them up straight away if you just throw them on the back of a chair to put away later, you could A, go to make a coffee, someone comes to the door, you end up forgetting to put away things and the house will look untidy. I know all about that… Also if you put the clothes away at the end of each iron, you don’t have loads to do after  your ironing. So, ironing? Go slow with your clothes

Don’t hurry it or you will burn yourself. I have to use my spare hand a lot to see where I am up to, trying to remember to keep the other hand with the iron in away from my spare hand. My hands do what sighted people’s eyes do.

Vacuuming the house? Oh I always miss some, all the wires around the edging is impossible. My Husband gets on his knees to vacuum. No way I’m getting down there, so I just try to again remember where I have been, covering each part of the floor. When in the kitchen though, or dining room, clean table/surfaces firsts so crumbs go on the floor, if you vacuum then do that, your floor will look no better.

Windows or other glass? Well, whatever way you end up cleaning your windows, again start at one end and just remember where you have been, but always end up using paper towels to wipe clean then you won’t end up with smudges.

I do my best to avoid windows, I really do… Goodness knows what they look like but I know sighted people who must think they have cataracts as their own windows are filthy, Hehehehehe.

There is not one job I don’t do around the house. I am proud that I can do it, though I understand people who feel like they can’t. If you can’t don’t stress about it, there are sighted people who don’t do their housework, they get a cleaner, either because they are lazy, or just don’t like house work, not saying I like it, but I do, reluctantly.

Okay, off for now to look for me feathered duster.

Not.

BLIND, BLONDE OR JUST ME?

Oh I have to tell you a funny story or two. Firstly I have just been talking to friends about a real blonde moment. I was at my friends Trix and my Hanz, Trix daughter told me her brother bought her a candle for Christmas with photos of her friends and family on.  I said that she wouldn’t be able to burn it. The room went quiet. You know I am the kind of person who just doesn’t read the room. Haha haha. I didn’t even read it when my Hub nudged me. I went on about my Hans not burning the blooming candle. I said how could she burn photographs of her family and friends?

Well, no one bothered to explain anything they chose to just think, oh it’s Fiona…

Turned out she received not a candle, but a calendar. Hahahahaaha. I asked when I found out why anyone didn’t stop me.

Oh I was red.

Next story more like a blind moment rather than blonde. Today my Son put on a program I used to love. I said oh I miss watching this. He asked why I don’t watch it now. I told him I can’t work the stupid telly. He said

“Mum, you can do that cute stupid thing with Dad, but please, you are not a stupid person…

Well, he decided to teach me how to turn on our TV.

Two remotes? Heck, four buttons?

I couldn’t do it; he said it was because I was not pointing it at the right place.

I told him I didn’t want to learn, I would break the TV. He said rolling his eyes I’m sure.

Mum, stop it now and learn.

So He told me he would close his eyes and he would show me he could do it blind.

He did

The TV remained off

He opened his eyes and tried doing it with his eyes open.

No TV. He had to leave for work, so have I broken it, or has the TV just had a small fit.

I won’t be turning that on again.

In fact, none of us may be turning that on again…

Oh and my shopping today? Well, teen was off to work. He as ever left in a hurry. I asked him if he wanted to take a drink I bought him? It was a smoothy or energy drink that I don’t normally buy, and I couldn’t remember which one I bought, well, I handed him the innocent smoothy perhaps? Teen said in his dry voice

“Mum, that is a can of Gin and tonic. Hahaha. Oh my word? Thank goodness he wasn’t a small boy and I put it in his school lunch box!

Our dogs love their new beds. I can’t get them out of them.

My left eye is really bothering me still. Remember when I told you I had the awful blur though I can’t see from it, I had started to see a blur? Well, it’s so tight too but the Doctors don’t know what is wrong, so I have to put up with it.

We have friends coming over this week so will be lovely to see them. I am host, God help us? We are having a meal. Now, where’s me file with the take away numbers in?

I will go for now but will be back later. With love. X

THE JUICE DIARY

A new year a new start. So what changes for us this year? I for sure wouldn’t have predicted the ending to last year for us, and as for the changes throughout the year? Never.

Last year was a very odd year for me. So much went on. Good and bad as well as different and for sure exciting along with total devastation. I really want this year to be normal with the good bits from last year please?

Monday morning. Back to the grindstone. Hub was picked up by a colleague and off they drove to Manchester for a couple of meetings.

I faced the dreaded washing basket that was beginning to look like a mountain. Over the holidays, I have only been washing the the essentials. Comes a time when I have to face colours that all look black to me. Sorting them out into different loads. Oh it’s really hard and exhausting as I don’t want whites turning coloured as how will we know they have? Until someone on a night out tells us… Too late then our faces will be washed out reds.

I have found all the left over Christmas decorations, we do it every year. Leaving just a few things out. How annoying.

Shopping came this morning. All delivered so the game of what’s what and putting it away, then forgetting what what is when coming to cooking. Hahahaha.  I have tried to simplify things and buy more fresh products, they are easier to know what they are as the shape kind of gives it away whereas when you buy frozen foods or boxed, they all look the same and there is no smell to frozen foods. Tell you what was a funny one before Christmas? Christmas tree lights. They came in a box that looked like dishwasher tablets. Of course when I opened them I knew what they were hehehe. I didn’t have bubbles hanging from my tree…

Oh putting the frozen foods in the freezer today was a challenge as our freezer was already full of bread and milk. Also another turkey for when we have forgotten about the Christmas one. So by the time I forced trays of chicken pork and other meats, it was time for the fish and my vegetarian foods, well, really, I swear that there is a little pixie in the back of my freezer pushing the food back out. It was blooming awful. The food was spewing out like one of those vender machines.

I got there in the end though, now, finding anything? Em, may be difficult.

The sun is shining brightly today. It’s like spring here. Yesterday was so icy. The poor birds, won’t know whether to put on their top coats or just jumpers, hahaha.

Sorry, a silly blog, I promise I will be back to normal later; it’s the sugar in the sweeties I have eaten, gone to my brain….

Teen not long been up. He is making some fresh juice. Oh God help my kitchen… He’s off to work later then off out.

I bought Hub a Juicer for Christmas. It makes the house smell lovely. The intention is to be healthier… Oh yes!

I am just dreading the mess in there after boy wonder has finished.

I am off now to look for my mobile phone. I wish I had a pound for every time I lost it throughout the day.

Okay, off to clean my dishwasher. Just heard an advert on the TV as I’m writing this, all about how gross our dishwashers can become. Feeling rather sick. I guess that was the plan of the advertising company?

Lots to talk about this week so I will be back as quick as you can say Jack Robinson…

I love that saying, so what is the Origin and meaning?

In a very short time; suddenly.

It would be pleasing to be able to point to a historical figure called Robinson who was the source of this expression. Regrettably, we can't. It could well be that there was an actual Jack Robinson who was reputed to be quick in some way, but, if that's the case, any reliable record of him has disappeared. It is just as likely that Jack Robinson was a mythical figure and no more real than Jack Tar, Jack Frost or Jack the Giant Killer.

It is known that the phrase was in circulation by the end of the 18th century as Mme. Frances D'Arblay (Fanny Burney) used it then in her romantic novel Evelina, or the history of a young lady's entrance into the world in 1778:

“Well, after reading this on phrase finder.com, I’m gutted to learn that Jack the giant killer wasn’t real??????

Later gators. X

MY AWARD FOR OTHERS

Good evening Bloggets. Here I am whilst my Husband is making my dogs wild chasing them with his slippers, and they are running, so would I, being threatened by Hubs slipper. Haha haha. That’s enough to make the bravest beasties run!

I’m surprised they are even talking to him, as they had a bath, well, a shower today in the garden. There I was the hero. Hub all booted up in the cleaned dog run with a cold hose shampoo and determination  as no dog would stand and take that, Hub kept telling them they didn’t complain when they swam in the river with their Aunty Mandy the dog sitter.. He told them they must do the time as they have done the crime… I was there with hot towels at the end telling them not to ever talk to their Daddy again Hehehehehe. I dried their fur with the hair drier and groomed them, when they were totally dry; they got their brand new lovely soft beds.

They have been brushed three times outside today and I have cleaned the floors four times. Really, the hair?

Only one day for Hubs holiday now. Then he will go to a meeting on Monday in Manchester and life is back to normal.

Teen has had a very odd day today. He is working tomorrow.

My Niece and family are planning to visit, really looking forward to that Hub and I were talking about our visit to the lodge today, really it was brilliant. Sadly my Brothers best friend from schools wife died a few days ago. Awful news she was so young. Heart breaking as leaves behind five Sons. You should love those close to you more each day as you never know when it is your last day together.

On Monday, it will be forty years since my first visit to the former USSR.

Gosh, I feel so very old. Forty years since such cruel treatment of electric shocks 172 injections and being force fed. But all for the best for my sight. Just wish it had all been done in a different way. I was removed from my Mum for six weeks without being told what was to happen. I was sure that I was back in a home for adopted children. I waited for my birth Mother to walk through the door. I didn’t understand Russian as I was a very small child. No one spoke English in the whole six weeks I was there. I cried every day and night for my Mum, Dad and Brother. To never see them again, I never understood what crime I had committed to be punished in such a manner. Russian hospitals were not a great place to be. They were dirty and ancient with barbaric treatment of four rusty needles per day and because it was new serum, it was incredibly painful. Because I wouldn’t go voluntarily to the room where my name was being called out, the nurse with the nasty needles, used to come to me, wherever I ran she caught me and cornered me or got the fat cleaner to lie across me. Once there was a huge man in army uniform who held me in his arms with the tightest grip and another time, I was held down by two Doctors. Not because I was big, far from it, but because I was a fighter. I kicked, screamed and bit. Yes, shamefully bit, I was terrified. I was removed from my Mum and nothing was explained to me why these needles. Why I was no longer seeing my Mum. Why I had to eat the worst food on the planet and why I had to spend six weeks that as a little girl seemed like six months. There were no clocks, not that I was old enough to read the time, there were no televisions no radios no toys nothing.

After a few weeks I befriended a kind lady I have spoken about before I called her Mrs Kid. She would wrap me up and take me out into the hospital grounds, I hated that. Yes it was to get fresh air; the snow was over my knees. So the worst thing happened.  A man used to be there all of the time. Same man. Evil person with a sinister laugh. He would say words I didn’t understand to Mrs Kid. Looking back, I guess he was saying he would lift me from the snow, but he had different intentions. He was a very sick man and it took Mrs Kid about a week before she realised what he was doing. I remember that day; she almost murdered him on the spot. I wish she had of then other children would be safe. Of course, I knew what he was doing was wrong, but who to tell?

I used to plan my escape every time I went into the grounds. I saw the big black gates to freedom. But what was beyond those gates? I didn’t know and better the devil I knew.

My body ached with malevolent medical treatment. The nefarious nurse as I first thought of her hurt me with needles four every single day and ink like liquid being forced into my veins once a week then there was the cat dungeon. Really, it was awful. It was a cellar full of smelly cats crawling around my ankles. I was blind in there as it was so dark only lit by a couple of orange gas lamps. Then a furry creature would rub itself on my leg. I would scream as I used to think it was a rat.  That is why the cats were there, to keep things like that out. I was given electrical wires dipped in water and told to put them on my eyes. When I didn’t the Doctors got cross with me. I was so afraid of them. All these voices speaking in a tongue I had never heard before. I was too young to understand foreigners, but I soon learned. I had to grow up so quickly. This was the year I started my boarding school too. It was a very bad year for me.

The Russian treatment also included wearing these enormous contact lenses, like half shells. They were so big and sharp. They were attached to wires too. Thankfully I was spared the blood sucking leaches and received blood tests the normal way, but the whole experience was so bad it will never leave me.

It was forty years ago I received my bravery award in London too. Brave, me? No. Not at all. I was terrified. I cried a lot and shivered in absolute pain and fear. Bravery is when someone does something voluntarily. I didn’t do the above voluntarily, believe me.

This treatment went on for so long, but improved over the years. I received eye injections and needles in my face too, again, not brave. I was a child and young adult. I did what I was told. Yes I saw without the pains I have now for some years, but as soon as I stopped the treatment as an adult, my sight deteriorated over the years, then overnight I went totally blind. So in the end, should I have gone to Russia? Yes, I guess so. To see my babies face. I saw him until he was one. But then the pain of knowing I will never see my Sons smile again I was robbed. If I hadn’t had that privilege, I wouldn’t have known the loss. My Husband has never seen his daughter’s faces. He gets cross with me when I express how bad it was for me to kiss my Son goodnight put him in his cot and wake up the next morning to the dark and never see the light again.

Retinitis pigmentosa is cruel; you never know when you will go blind!

My Mum didn’t know of the hardship I suffered in the hospital. She was forbidden from visiting me until week five of the treatment. Then she was told by an interpreter she had to sit in a room behind a glass and say nothing at all. She could look at me but if she said anything, the treatment would be over and we would go home!

When she first went to Russia, she took enough tablets for a month. So she went weeks without them and became very ill. I can’t explain how bad it must have been for her. She didn’t talk Russian; she was not a mixer with people and was terrified of Russia, as were most people in those days.

Russia was not at all like the mining village she came from. Far from it. It was a very scary place cold and you couldn’t find things like toiletries in shops. The hotels used to serve the same three meals per week. So after a few weeks the food was just unbearable. But better than what I was getting. Casha. It is like a porridge, but worse. It was fed to me as I rebuked the spoonfuls each day.

Was all that pain of Russia really worth it?  My parents had no life. They sacrificed so much to get me to Russia. I would do the same for my Son. If you have a child who can be helped, you will do anything.

So forty years later, where are we? Well, I am blind; I have been for sixteen years. But there is some hope now, for some sight at least, I just can’t see myself being ever able to see, but I know if I ever do, I will spend my life in shock, but will never  forget the days of blindness, though I am a stronger person now as I have learned to live in this world. I have had no choice. It’s painful; it’s cruel and so very difficult. No one knows of our struggles, but no one knows of our achievements too. If you have sight, be thankful for it as this blind world is so hard to except. I have learned to deal with it, I’m no longer terrified. I can breathe normally now. I know we can live and we live without sight or help from anyone, but how hard this life is. Everything we do is so difficult. So challenging and because of blindness, we have both suffered greatly with  depression. But we are winners as we are still alive. Cutting words from others being treat so badly by other people too is nasty, but at the end of the day, we have each other and we have pride. Pride that we can do things like banking, holidays, though they will be very difficult and not like a holiday that sighted people will experience, we can buy clothes, yes they may not be what we want, but we haven’t been arrested yet for nudity.

We buy our food and cook. Clean the house, climb ladders to put outside decorations up and put them back in the loft on our own. We can get extensions and new bathrooms fitted and search for painters and other kinds of professionals to do work. This life removes so much fun and gives our hearts so much pain, but at the end of the day, we are winners. We are still here and yes it would be so lovely for our lives to be easier and not treat like lepers, but sometimes kindness does shine, like when we were invited to our neighbours for New Year and welcomed like normal people, I say normal, because the majority don’t think we are, well, we may not be your normal, but we are good and kind and have compassion for others and I guess we are brave.

I treasure my award. I hold it sometimes and thank my parents for being so brave. My brother who also suffered because of my stupid sight loss and for the Doctors in Russia who at least tried. Unlike the rest of the world who at that time gave up.

I guess the Russian Doctors were very brave.

Mrs Kid was very kind and in the end brave as she died two years later after looking after me in hospital. Leaving two young daughters. She died with results of her eye condition. It wasn’t what I had, but a life ending condition.

Brave are the poor five boys who have just lost their Mum. I still miss mine so much. It’s been sixteen years in a few days since she died and it’s still painful life without her.

She was a very brave lady and I will be forever grateful towards her as she had no life because of me. I hate myself for it, though it really wasn’t my fault.

God bless you all.

HOLD ONTO YOUR HAT

Hi Bloggets, well, the Christmas tree has left the building… Well, Okay, the living room. Hub and I have worked so hard all day meticulously removing every delicate bauble and precious decoration wrapping them in bubble wrap and boxing them, no, not with gloves on, boxing them as in putting them in boxes. Hehehehehe.

All the outdoor decorations are down and away too. We had tinsel from A to B, so had to vacuum and clean the floors.

The house looks very bare now and I like it. I have to get everything down as quickly as possible after the New Year.

Here in the city where I live, 2014 has been recorded to have been the warmest year since

1659

We have had a difficult day of housework, but a nice day too. Teen has plans that don’t involve someone I can’t stand… So that is good. We have had a lovely week whilst the person I’m talking about is skiing in France. Long may it last?

On our News our Prince Andrew is facing allegations of having sex with an underage American some years ago. I think it’s dreadful that people can say such a thing years later as there is no proof really, and mud sticks. It is dreadful if it’s true but to be honest girls look older these days, a girl of fourteen can easily look eighteen.

Teen went out on New Year with a load of friends and danced all night today he has been twice on the treadmill. He’s going out tomorrow too. I wish I had his energy.

Our dogs are desperate for a bath, but it’s so cold we can’t do it outside and no way they are going in our bath, so what to do?

I took them to the dog groomer last year but after then just did them myself with warm buckets and the garden hose but that was in the summer. The groomers was not too good as she sent the dogs back so very wet and we had to get a taxi there and back I would be cross if I were the taxi driver with wet dogs, but I thought the lady would have dried them, so after paying a fortune, I said to Hub that we may as well do it ourselves, it’s the same result.

But come the winter?

They have new beds for Christmas but I’m not putting them in until they are cleaned.

Teen had a driving lesson today, he has started again. This time a different teacher. I’m not keen on her for a few reasons, but if he gets a good result out of her fine.

The winds are wild here again today.

I have put on some candles. Removed the Christmas decorations like pinecones ferns and dried fruits around them and wrapped artificial ivy around them

I have turned on our fire and put the candles each side of the fireplace, lamps are on and it’s very cosy. Some would ask why? I can’t see a thing, but as I keep saying, my mind is very active.

My imagination still works

Let’s hope the wick has lit and the bulbs are working? Hahahahahahah. Joking, they are, blind people can’t see, we are not stupid. How do we know? Really there will be people wondering…

There is flickering warmth from the candle and a crackle and then after a few minutes, you can smell the wax. As for a lamp? You also feel a gentle heat. Quite obvious really.

Counting down to see our girls. Not long now before they are here, then we will have Christmas again as we have all of their gifts here. I can’t wait to see them.

It’s been difficult writing this as Hub has music blasting violins are coming from our speakers, so sorry about the mistakes.

Right on that note, get it? Note? Violin?

You don’t?

Oh!! I shall go and get some old fashioned sweeties I got for Christmas and settle down to watch telly.

Until later with love, keep safe and warm. If you are local and going out, hold onto your hat… haha.

HAPPY NEW YEAR2015

Happy New year Bloggets.

It’s seven in the evening of the first of January 2015.

The wind is howling outside and it’s cool but for this time of year mild.

Today has all been a bit of a blur to be honest. All I know is I have cooked and remembered to breathe.

Last night we went to our Neighbours and met with friends Di and co. It was lovely to catch up with everyone. The host Mel was as ever really lovely, hilariously funny and absolutely in good spirit.

They have just got an extension and it is really a fantastic job. Their house is so welcoming. A kind of place you feel at home as soon as you walk through the door.

Neighbours brought their home made punches and cocktails. Oh heck. You know when they taste of juice.

But it’s not juice?

And when your pourer tells you after you have drank it that there are three double shots of everything in there?

Well, I had in total over almost seven hours, four drinks, so I really purposely didn’t overdrink.

But as Hub explained today, my four drinks were about twelve.

I was so not drunk. I hate drinking as I get drunk very easily, but the house was hot and I was thirsty as the food needed a drink to go with it. So I drank the juice.

Well, I walked home with our friend in a streight line and made perfect sense and knew exactly what was going on and where I was, but today?

Ooh my word. I feel terrible. Not really a headache. But something has disconnected.

Hub is Okay though as ever, quite normal. Last night he had a good old sing song at the party but apart from that, he was alright. I was the bore as ever and quite civilised. Though I really enjoyed myself I think that is the best New Year I have had in over twenty years.

Mel was so complimentary towards me telling me I had no lines on my face and didn’t look near my age, bless her, haha haha. I wonder if it’s her time for glasses. Seriously though, I don’t know what I look like when I go out, so it was so sweet to hear that also I can’t ask my Husband how I look? Sometimes I joke with him and ask him

Standing a distance from him

“Does my bum look big in this?”

Funny thing is, he kind of hesitates before answering as though he is looking. Hehehehehe. Then gives me the kind answer

“No, not at all.

Then his nose grows like Pinocchio’s.

Teen went out to town with about twenty friends. Firstly went to a party at a house then town. He went into a club and danced then went to the Minster for midnight and back to dance. He also fit in a Pizza during the night and believe it or not, walked all the way home about thirty five minutes’ walk.

For lunch today I cooked a three bird roast for the meat eaters and homemade chips with mushy peas and for supper later we are having hot buffet food.

Going to watch Telly now and then an early night I think.

Received lovely texts from my Brother and Sister in law and my two Nieces. My mad Aunt text last night about nine telling me she was going to bed…

Loads of texts from friends today so all well in the jungle of the New Year.

Lots of dreadful news today though about people being stabbed and shot in the UK and I think there has been five house fires where people have died.

All in England. This is news we used to only hear from America, now it’s here, it’s not good. I think this year will really be one of great breakthroughs and historical happenings. I can’t say why I feel this, but this year will make history for reasons we have never seen before.

It’s like a new beginning. As though we are entering a new world. Perhaps this will make sense to some? I can tell you, it doesn’t to me… I just know this is what I feel and how I feel.

I so much want it to be a good year. I really hope idiotic behaviour will be a motion from the past and we will all live in peace.

It would be wonderful if by this time next year, I am saying to you that this will be the last New Year I am blind and those who can’t see at the start of the year will have been told they will get new treatment within months. But if not, and we have to wait a little longer, so be it. I can’t see and I have had a lovely New Year with kind people.

Di and I had a good old catch up and a laugh and Hub called the girls by my phone shortly after midnight and they are Okay.

Right, let’s get this show on the road and publish this before I ramble some more. I hope this gets to you as really I’m not feeling my best. Hehehe.

By the sounds of outsides weather, I hope we have a roof by morning?

Lots of love and let’s all join together and have hope for this year and believe in ourselves and bright safe roads a head! Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
